Seven star or plumb blossom needling is a Traditional Chinese Medicine technique using a hammer-like tool with multiple fine needles to gently tap the skin, stimulating acupuncture points and meridians to help release tension in overused and over worked muscles by moving qi and blood back into the area to invigorate and restore function. It should only be done by a licensed acupuncturist who knows proper technique, areas to avoid and reasons to use this tool.
This technique can be used to treat various conditions like pain, digestive issues, skin problems (like alopecia), and neurological disorders, promoting circulation and removing stagnation without deep pe*******on. This technique is often used alongside other therapies, and after this I did manual therapy on her head, neck and upper back to help further balance the muscle tensions leading to pain and headaches.
How it works
The tool: A handle with several (often seven) small, fine needles arranged in a circular pattern.
The technique: A practitioner gently taps or pricks the skin’s surface along meridian lines or specific points, causing microtrauma that stimulates blood flow and Qi (energy).
Mechanism: It’s believed to remove “stasis” (blockages), promote regeneration, and improve local and systemic function by activating the body’s healing response.
I offer this treatment in the clinic and most often use it for hard to release tensions in upper back, neck and shoulders, though I’ve had good success with helping post herpetic neuralgia (shingles pain post infection) as well.
