They are reaching through their foliage to celebrate!

Weeding is good for human bodies, as long as we move with mindfulness. Notice if your shoulders creep up to the ears. Let your core initiate movements. Tune in to bodily tension, and see if you can breath a little more fully.

And if you don’t feel like weeding in the heat, you can celebrate National Sewing Machine Day instead! Or, go find your Pilates mat and make a date with The Hundred.

You’ve heard it before: use the best muscles for the movement. Give the other ones a break!

Alas, some of us have worker bee Nervous-Nelly butts — so busy gripping and clenching (“helping”), they start altering the mechanics of the pelvis, and they inhibit the activation of the transverse abdominis muscles.

That’s where YOU come in. Take time to tune in to your body. If you recognize derrière tension, slow down, and invite it to shift. See what happens.

Once you identify a pattern, you really can affect change. Not overnight, of course (and pressuring yourself may just get those glutes going). But, little by little, and with support from a Pilates instructor, if you’re lucky enough to have one you can call on.

Tag an instructor who helps you with this! Tag a friend who knows about grippy glutes!
