Piedmont Neurosurgery of Athens

Piedmont Neurosurgery of Athens Piedmont Neurosurgery is a patient-centered clinic dedicated to bringing you the best treatment. Welcome to Piedmont Neurosurgery of Athens.

We are a patient-centered clinic dedicated to bringing you the best possible treatment options for cranial and spinal conditions. The way we see it, every patient is unique, and that means the way you’re treated should be also. While many neurological surgeons measure success by the number of patients they rush in and out of their offices and operating rooms, Piedmont Neurosurgery of Atherns defines success by the number of people who are able to live better lives after receiving our care. Our mission is to provide the most up-to-date neurosurgical care for you in a setting where you are known and respected. We believe that medical care is a team effort, shared by you and all of us in this office.

We know our wait times for new patients have been long, and while we're grateful so many people want to trust us with their care, we also know that can be frustrating. So our team volunteered to come in on their "Saturday off" to help get more of our amazing patients seen and reduce wait time. We really do have the best people.

Our team spent the evening volunteering at the food bank, where they made 78 bread and snack products and packaged hundreds of donated items. They had such a great time giving back that they're already wanting to do it again.

Happy New Year from Piedmont Athens Neurosurgery! 🎉

As we step into 2026, we're taking a moment to reflect on what matters most—the trust you place in us with your care.
This past year, we've had the privilege of helping patients find relief, regain mobility, and get back to the lives they love. There's no greater reward than watching someone walk out of our office feeling better than when they walked in.

Here's to a new year filled with health, hope, and new beginnings. Thank you for being part of our Piedmont Athens family.
Wishing you and yours a happy, healthy 2026!

Devon Gales is officially a UGA graduate!!!

Everyone at Piedmont Athens Neurosurgery is so proud we can hardly stand it. Ten years ago, Dr. Walpert performed emergency spine surgery on Devon after a catastrophic injury on the field right here in Athens.

What's happened since then? Devon just kept going.

He's fought for every bit of the life he's building, stayed positive through all of it, and inspired more people than he probably realizes. It's been an honor to be part of his journey and to watch him come this far. We can't wait to see what's next.

When it comes to your health, the details matter. Even small symptoms can provide critical insight into your diagnosis and treatment. Be honest about everything you’re experiencing—our team needs the full picture to provide the best care possible.

If you have questions, ask them. We want you to be involved in your care, and no question is too small. Understanding your condition, treatment, and recovery process empowers you to make informed decisions about your health.

If something doesn’t feel right—side effects, unexpected pain, or recovery challenges—speak up. We are here to support you, and addressing concerns early can make a difference in your outcome.

And if something changes, tell us. Whether it’s an improvement or a new concern, keeping us updated allows us to adjust your treatment as needed. The more we know, the more we can help.

Your voice is a vital part of your care. We’re here to listen—always.

To all veterans: thank you for your service and sacrifice. Today and every day, we're grateful for the courage and commitment you've shown in defending our country.

We're especially proud to have Kathleen Miller on our team. Kathleen served in the U.S. Army as an OR Tech at a major trauma center, and she brings that same dedication to caring for our patients every day. Thank you, Kathleen, and thank you to all who have served.
