Know your “why” before you start a new routine.

Are you training for size, losing weight, strength, or specific athletic ability? How you answer the “why” determines the the fastest way to get there by making specific sequential decisions. It helps you navigate the small steps required to make giant leaps toward your fitness goals.

So it is with life. Why are you doing what you’re doing? If you have the right “why”, then you can endure much. If you don’t have the right “why”, you will not sustain any decision you make.

So, let’s spend a little time and decide our “why”, then walk that road to our goals!

Gym philosophy meets life series!

Trust the process.

It takes about 6 weeks to see effects from a new routine. Some changes take time to take effect so don’t give up trying anything new before then.

So it is with life. Trying anything new can be daunting. But if and when you do, give it some time. Don’t expect immediate changes- be patient. Think about it…it may have taken you years of developing a certain habit or decision-making process. To permanently and effectively change that habit or process and see tangible effects immediately may not happen overnight.

Trust the process. You’re making positive changes. Give them time to come to fruition before deciding they are or aren’t working.

Gym philosophy meets life series!

Genetics loads your potential, lifestyle pulls the trigger on maximizing it.

Look around at your fellow fitness enthusiasts. Do they all look the same? Nope. Many of them have been blessed with superior genetics. Some can grow muscle easily. Some can lose weight easily. Some can go for one run and see changes in their body. They can reach amazing fitness levels with minimal effort and can reach elite levels with maximal effort.

But some of them have earned every pound of muscle, every lost pound of fat, every muscle striation. These are the people to be admired. They work hard and have maximized their potential. And we never know which group each of us belongs to, until we change our lifestyle to one of overall wellness and fitness. Just because you aren’t gifted physically doesn’t mean you can’t develop and improve your potential.

So it is with life. Many of us are gifted in certain areas. Some personalities can flourish in business, relationships and other pursuits, with seemingly minimal effort. But most of us have to work hard. Anything can be trained and improved. Never sell yourself short. You can get better and learn anything. Nobody was born with knowledge. Skills can be developed and you can succeed!

Gym philosophy meets life series!

There’s more than one way to get the job done, as long as you’re consistent.

There are many ways to work out. There are many ways to work even one muscle group. Different angles, different weights, different rep ranges, etc. are all ways of working out. You can see results doing any and all of these. Some people will see better results with certain techniques than others but everyone benefits at least a little bit from all of it, as long as they’re consistent.

So it is with life. There are many paths to success. However, doing something consistently will always be better long term than trying a little here and there and never being consistent. No matter how many times the story is told, the tortoise beats the hare!
