Do you have one of these personality traits?

I was recently quoted in an article from Heathline about the five "big" traits -- emotional stability, extraversion, conscientiousness, openness, and agreeableness -- that seem to contribute to overall work, social, and life satisfaction in adults. Of these five traits, emotional stability seems to be the greatest indicator of satisfaction. Important to note, however, that personality traits can change and shift slightly through your lifetime!

My biggest recommendation? Boost your mood by finding and engaging in activities that are a good fit for you!

Hey there! Y'all know I am a licensed clinical psychologist, as well as an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Richmond. Like most of us, I juggle other hats as a mother, lover/wife, dancer, and proud Buffy afficianado (maybe you're less geeky than me, which is cool for you, I guess). This piece right here (https://urnow.richmond.edu/magazine/article/-/22835/in-session.html) felt a bit vulnerable as it explored me, the human; my work; and how I got to where I am right now. Feel free to check it out and learn a bit more about the woman behind the random af posts.

Nevereverever stop learning! Like so many professors and therapists, I love opportunities to further my education to make sure I'm bringing the most up-to-date techniques and methods to both the classroom and to therapy sessions. I recently went on my first international conference, and I was really excited to see what new perspectives I would gain as I had the opportunity to learn from folks from all around the world.

Let me know in the comments -- what have you been learning recently?

To all the moms out there — this week is for you. We’re often told by society that birthing should be a traumatic, painful, just-plain-awful process ... but that isn’t the case! If you had an experience where you felt out of control of your body or the decisions surrounding it during the birthing process, there may be some lingering effects on your mental health. So let’s start this conversation in the comments: what should the birth process look like? What do you hope it could be? Let’s talk about it.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever needed to talk to a professor about a mental health-related concern (and it’s sort of freaked you out!). As a professor who has sat on the other side of that conversation numerous times, let’s walk through some steps to help you approach that conversation with confidence. Have you had an experience like this, positive or negative? Do you have any other questions about how to talk to your professor about mental health? I’d love to help! Just drop a comment below.

Publishers pulled a book, Bad and Boujee, on 'trap feminism' after the author was accused of racial and cultural appropriation and unethical citational practices. The backlash to the book centered on whether the author, a White theologian named Jennifer Buck, was qualified to write a book within the framework of Black feminist theology. This controversy is one iteration of an important but seldom clearly articulated question: What role should White scholars play in research that focuses on Black subjects?" Read more at the link in my bio!

Alright, taking a quick step back to explain what exactly trauma processing is; what it entails, why it’s important, and why I want to demystify it a little bit for you. What other questions do you have? Anything else I can break down for you?
