✨To sit at the feet of an Elder is a blessing not everyone receives. 💙🙏🏽

❤️Mothering the Mother: African American Postpartum Traditions, Recipes, and Healing by one of my teachers, Mama Shafia Monroe, is more than a book — it is a reclamation. A revival. A return.👏🏽

In these pages 📖, Mama Monroe calls us back to the sacred work of nurturing mothers during their most vulnerable and transformative season. She reminds us that postpartum care is not an afterthought — it is tradition. It is ritual. It is sisterhood. It is food, warmth, touch, prayer, and community. It is honoring both mother and newborn as sacred.

I don’t have access to the elders my ancestors once learned from. But I was given the honor and privilege in 2023 to not only call Mama my postpartum doula teacher… but my Elder. And that title is sacred. An Elder is not simply older — an Elder is wiser beyond their years, beyond your years. An Elder carries lineage, discernment, and lived wisdom.🤍

🙏🏽✨Thank you, Mama Monroe, for allowing me to sit at your feet.🤲🏽
Thank you for teaching me how to truly and traditionally mother the mother — as a doula, as a woman, as a mother, and as a matriarch myself.

This is legacy work. This is sacred work. This is BLACK HISTORY… Mama, YOU ARE BLACK HISTORY ✊🏾❤️

Black History Month reminds us that we are not new to this—we are true to this.✊🏾💙

Long before hospitals.
Long before systems.
Long before recognition.

Black doulas, midwives, and birth workers were the keepers of life, wisdom, and survival.
We held wombs, caught babies, buried the dead, tended the grieving, and anchored our communities through love, skill, and ancestral knowing.

Doulas are Black history✊🏾
Not a trend‼️
Not an add-on‼️
A lineage‼️

👏🏽✨We honor the grand midwives, the healers, the root workers, the aunties, the village women & every Black doula continuing this sacred work today.

This is remembrance.
This is resistance.
This is legacy.

January 29, 2026 is officially recognized as Doula Day at the Georgia State Capitol.✨💙

This resolution is more than paper. It is recognition. It is history. It is legacy.

Since the very beginning of my journey as a doula, whenever the Capitol has called — whether , , or anyone advocating for birth workers — Doula of the Divine and The Divine Doula Agency have shown up.

We show up for change.
We show up for recognition.
We show up for collaborative care.
We show up for our cultures.
We show up for our community-chosen doulas.

Georgia has a rich legacy of mothers, grandmothers, aunties, and community birth workers who have always supported birthing people. Today’s doulas continue that legacy — attaining certifications, working inside hospital systems, leading schools like and , and training providers in trauma-informed care, inclusive language, and natural comfort measures.

To see , , and acknowledged on this resolution at the Capitol is powerful.

We stand in solidarity with doulas everywhere.
We honor the ancestors who did this work without titles.
We advocate for policies that protect our families.

Because every community deserves a doula. 💙✨

💙✨ My first homebirth divine mama , the one who blindly trusted me to assist her in what was supposed to be a hospital birth and ended up as an unassisted homebirth … you looked at me and told me you weren’t going to that hospital … and all I could do and wanted to do was ride that journey with you. 🤗

5 years later you still hold a very dear place in my heart, client turned sister. thank you for knowing what I was capable of before the world did 😘💙✨

happy solar return to my baby henny, and happy labor and push day to you mama … your doula loves you to life 🤞🏽
