Grace Dockstader, a graduate of Skyland Trail’s adult program, recently joined 240 advocates from 49 states in Washington, D.C., to represent the Georgia Chapter at the 2025 National Advocacy Forum hosted by the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention (AFSP). Alongside two fellow Georgia representatives, Grace participated in educational sessions, walked the halls of Capitol Hill, and met with all 16 Georgia congressional offices to advocate for AFSP’s 2025 Federal Policy Priorities—including the urgent need to preserve the LGBTQIA+ specialized line within the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

Now an international advocate, Grace is active with AFSP, DBT-LBC, and Skyland Trail’s alumni program, where she shares her powerful story of hope and resilience. Her passion for advocacy was born from the desire to find purpose in her own survival and to save lives by bravely telling the story of what nearly ended hers.

Our Story

About Skyland Trail Based in Atlanta, Skyland Trail is a nationally recognized nonprofit mental health treatment organization serving adults ages 18 and older. We offer expert, evidence-based psychiatric care alongside a compassionate, holistic path to wellness. This powerful mix makes Skyland Trail a different kind of mental health solution. Few things can be as overwhelming and frustrating as mental illness – or finding effective treatments. At Skyland Trail, we get it. Which is why we take a different approach to helping adults with mental health issues. Located in Atlanta, Skyland Trail is a nationally recognized nonprofit mental health treatment organization serving adults ages 18 and older. We’re not a hospital or lock-down institution, we’re one of the nation's top mental health treatment centers – a voluntary treatment community of clients finding new ways to overcome the limitations of their illness and reclaim their lives. But success is built on a two-way commitment – we’re committed to our patients and we ask our patients to commit to our approach. Each client has to put in the time and effort needed to make real and sustainable progress. As a long-term residential treatment facility, we’re serious about healing and we’re passionate about the community we serve.
