What life skill do you wish you were taught as a child?

For many, it’s this:
👉 How to recognize a bad relationship — and how to leave one.

We’re taught how to fall in love.
We’re not taught how to evaluate relationships.
We’re rarely taught how to exit them with clarity and confidence.
Not every relationship is toxic — some are simply misaligned. And that’s enough.

Let’s normalize emotional education. Let’s talk about what healthy really looks like.

Meet Marvin — a top surgeon, “functioning” on the outside... yet his life was crumbling behind the scenes:
❌ Multiple lawsuits
❌ Broken marriages
❌ Kids who cut him off
❌ IRS debt

He believed he was fine. But alcohol was silently wrecking everything.

👉 High performers can still be struggling. Don’t let “functioning” fool you.

Recovery starts when we stop pretending.

So I asked, “Have you ever just told him that?”

What followed was a powerful reminder: You don’t need perfect words. Just look someone in the eye and say, “I want to make this better.”
That’s the moment everything shifts.

Because most problems?
They start to solve themselves when we show up — heart first. ❤

Bob Earl, a legendary AA speaker, once told a story that hits hard.

After decades in Hollywood, he watched a healthy friend enjoy his career — in just 6 hours — more than he ever had in 30 years. Why? Because the friend was curious, confident, and present.

Bob had spent years staying quiet, unseen… because that’s what childhood wounds taught him to do.

This story is a reminder:
✅ Don’t shrink yourself
✅ Ask the questions
✅ Take up space
✅ Enjoy what you’ve built

You deserve to live fully — not on the sidelines.

Steve Jobs was dying of cancer when he let Walter Isaacson follow him around to write his biography.

At one point, Walter asked,
“You’re super private. You hate interviews. Why let me in?”

And Jobs said,
“I’m doing it for my kids. I want them to get to know me.”

That’s… heartbreaking.
Instead of just spending time with them, he hoped a book would do the job.

It’s a reminder: no amount of success is worth more than being present with the people you love.

Want to be a happy billionaire (or just a decent human)?
Spend time with your kids. Let them really know you.

What’s worse than a bad boss? An inconsistent one. Studies show people prefer a bad boss over an unpredictable one — because at least they know what to expect.

The same goes for parenting. Kids need consistency to feel safe and secure. Clear rules, steady reactions, and predictable boundaries are key — even when you’re having a tough day.

In this video, I’ll explain why being consistent is one of the most important parenting skills you can develop. Don’t be the unpredictable parent.

Bob Earle had a child later in life and couldn’t wait to share that moment with his mom. But every time he invited her to meet her granddaughter, there was always an excuse—until she suddenly had time for a multi-city trip across Europe.

This story isn’t just about one family—it’s a lesson in human behavior:

👉 People don’t reveal their priorities with words. They do it with actions.

In this video, we break down what this story teaches us about emotional availability, boundaries, and how to stop chasing people who don’t show up.

Being a parent doesn't mean making excuses—it means taking charge with love.
Your child might be sensitive, energetic, or struggling—and yes, they still need boundaries.
Parenting isn’t about perfection, it’s about consistent, nurturing leadership.
As Pia Melody said, trauma is anything less than fully nurturing behavior.
So let’s nurture, guide, and lead—not criticize or coddle.

Ever noticed how some parents shine in public—but go emotionally MIA at home?
They’ll show up at school drop-offs with smiles or post cute dinner photos on Instagram…
But when the cameras are off and the doors are closed, their presence fades.

Here’s the truth:
Parenting isn’t about how you look—it’s about how you show up when no one’s watching.
Because the moments that shape a child the most happen in the quiet, ordinary, unseen parts of life.

Be the parent who’s present behind closed doors.
That’s where it really counts.

People tend to stay the same; we become "stuck" even when we know we need to do things differently. Becoming "unstuck" is where I help. I offer direct, powerful therapy: I don't "beat around the bush." My focus is on providing caring, effective and supportive services in the areas of individual psychotherapy and relationship therapy (couples and marriage counseling); therapy for children, adolescents and families; and, drug and alcohol addiction recovery. I treat people like I would want someone to treat a member of my own family (and some of them certainly needed treatment.) See http://www.drgore.com/atlanta-psychologist-office-virtual-tour/
