The catastrophic destruction in western North Carolina isn't getting the national coverage it needs. Entire communities are cut off from aid and complete towns have been washed away. These are the lives of real human beings. The mountain towns of southern Appalachia are beautiful places. We travel this area often and hold a special place in my heart.
Please consider donating to this community's recovery efforts. These are amazing people. They are working to rebuild their own community while also sharing all their skills to help those around them. Thankfully everyone is safe. The same cannot be said for their roads and bridges.

It's the end of Elderberry season for my little herb farm. Many of you are already familiar with my variety of
urban herbals and my neighborhood herb garden, Hearth Craft.
Currently, I am taking orders for my homemade Elderberry Syrup. This year I am also offering
Elderberry Fire Cider.
Elderberry Syrup plain or with cinnamon, ginger and clove.
These are wonderful to boost immunity throughout cold and flu season. Message me to order or with questions.

. This year I had 4 huge beautiful Clary Sage plants in their 2nd year. They offered big beautiful blooms (one was even purple!) and densely textured deep green leaves. They have been the star of the so far this season and amazing to watch grow.
I personally use Clary Sage monthly for hormonal balancing to ease pain. I packed my still with fresh blooms, top leaves and filtered water. The essential oil and results were quite lovely. Clary Sage hydrosol aroma is delightful as well as the bronze hue of the essential oil. The hydrosol makes a wonderful combination with mugwort as a dream spray for bedtime. Clary Sage, Salvia sclarea, is definately a plant I have found kinship with.

This is some of the best cider I have ever had the pleasure of sippin. in Austin TX is crafting amazing batches of small and seasonal cider and I have missed it so much since moving away. AKA-Balkan Juniper Soda. Rumor says it's a niche beverage served in lieu of Alcohol in Bosnia. You can look that up. I just want to make it and drink it!
It is a very simple process.

3/4 cup dried Juniper Berries
1 quart spring or well filtered water
Use a fermentation lid or cheesecloth to cover for up to 30 days.
Shake it daily, Baby!
Berries can be re-fermented up to 3 times.

The flavor is bright, floral and refreshing. Easily a year round flavor. It pairs well with pine infused vodka or for a beverage mix with club soda and a squeeze of lime.

I love a squeeze of ginger syrup in my and soda.

This has been my go-to fancy glass beverage lately. Prost!
