π«ΆπΌ When youβre visiting or talking to a postpartum mom, the first things that come out of your mouth should not be βwell at leastβ or βif it was meβ or βI wish.β Instead you should be listening, assisting (not just holding the baby), or extended offers that could help mama (postpartum doula, massage vouchers, cleaning person, lactation counselor, etc).

1. βAt least baby and you are healthyβ - Mentally you do not know what is going on with mama on the inside. Looking healthy is different from actually being healthy, not all signs that something is wrong are presented in a persons physical appearance.
2. βAt least you donβt have to go to workβ - Birth is work, breastfeeding is work, caring for a baby is work, cleaning up is work, prioritizing self-care is work, caring for other children is work, eating is work. Refrain from insinuating that life after a baby is not work and that being home is easy! Theyβre in recovery mentally, physically, and emotionally.
3. βThe baby is going to be spoiled if you hold them all dayβ - You can not spoil a newborn baby! The baby has lived in the womb for approximately 9 months thatβs ~273 days. The baby is getting adjusted to life outside of the womb at this point, so they are going to need to be held and nurtured for their sake of comfort.
