It’s been a couple years since I introduced myself on here, so I thought this would be a good time to say hey again!
🌱 I’m Julie. Lactation consultant, occupational therapist and mom are my most relevant titles.
🌱 I grew up in central Florida and attended the University of Florida with my Bachelors in Health Science and Masters in Occupational Therapy (OT).
🌱 I started my path towards Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) as a Lactation Counselor (CLC) in 2020, which took almost 5 years.
🌱 As an OT, I have worked in lots of settings, including adult inpatient rehab, adult acute care & brain injury/neuro day rehab, pediatric home health, pediatric acute care & inpatient rehab, and of course perinatal/lactation OT!
🌱 My first experience in the perinatal world was during a mental health internship in OT school in a substance abuse rehab facility for pregnant and new mothers (and their babies).
🌱 I started Grow Together Lactation as I was finishing my IBCLC path in 2023.
🌱 My son was born in 2019 and my breastfeeding experience with him contributed to my drive to be able to support parents through feeding challenges.
🌱 My daughter was born in 2025 and even as a lactation professional, we still have experienced challenges and gather support from a lactation consultant.
🌱 Some of my personal motherhood journey experiences include C-section birth, VBAC birth, gestational diabetes (one time), tongue tie (one revised, one not), mastitis, triple feeding, low supply and supplementing with formula, returning to work, pumping, extended nursing, and single motherhood (for a few years).
🌱 I am a birth nerd and yes, I want to hear your fertility/birth/feeding journey stories.
🌱 While I haven’t been running much recently, running has been one of my own mental wellness tools over the years and I have run about 15 half marathons (one full marathon was enough for me).
🌱 I love traveling and hiking, which often involves lots of snack bribes when bringing a little kid along. For our honeymoon, my husband and I hiked 14 miles a day through Patagonia, staying in hostels along the way.
