Is Coaching Becoming the Modern Hack?
How do we discern if coaching leads to sustainable transformation rather than reinforcing co-dependency patterns? And how can we be sure these "hacks" will have a long-term positive impact on someone's personal and professional lives?
My journey into the coaching industry was driven by three (3) main pillars:
1️⃣ Service
2️⃣ Contribution
3️⃣ Leadership (True leaders will always do the work, and will never tell you to do something they will never do)
To stay true to these, I rely on three simple but profound ingredients:
1️⃣ Humbleness
2️⃣ Curiosity
3️⃣ Work
However, I've observed a troubling trend where the last ingredient is often overlooked in a rush for QUICK FIXES to mental, physical, and emotional discomfort. This approach mistakenly positions coaching as a universal solution to all problems—equivalent to the misapplication of therapy, medication, and alternative medicine.
Professionals and entrepreneurs seeking to navigate feelings of overwhelm, uncertainty, fatigue, and a lack of confidence frequently find themselves at a loss regarding where to start, where to go, whom to reach out to, and what program to follow.
The concepts presented can sometimes seem too abstract or esoteric—a sentiment I understand personally.
We can't expect an overwhelmed individual to suddenly embrace compassion, grace, and acceptance without guidance. Our role as coaches isn't to offer shortcuts (HACKS) but to foster progress and empower clients to envision and work towards a future they previously thought impossible.
It involves guiding them through the process, not 'around' it. Models and frameworks serve as tools and guidance for implementation, not as a lens through which to view the client. Adopting this perspective can entirely overlook an individual's starting point and their current mental, physical, and emotional state."
The essence of coaching isn't found in complex concepts or frameworks but in what resonates with the individual as a whole—taking into account their physical, mental, and emotional readiness, guiding them through their journey, and equipping them with the tools needed for continued growth.

PS. Common "Hacking" language to pay attention to: 'Get rid of,' 'eliminate,' 'remove,' 'eradicate,' and 'erase.'
