Today and every day, we pause to honor the Veterans who’ve given so much in service to our country.

At HappyTalks, we believe connection is a powerful way to say thank you. Many of the older adults we speak with are Veterans or have Veterans in their families. Their stories remind us daily of courage, sacrifice, and resilience.

Think about it: a 70-year-old in 2025 has a much different reality than a 70-year-old in 1990.

The medical advancements, technology, cultural differences and pop culture during their life are an ocean of difference. Would you agree?

While AI brings amazing possibilities, it is also fueling a serious rise in elder fraud. 🚨

You don't go from $3.3B to $4.4B in elder fraud losses in one year by coincidence. AI is a part of that story.

Here at HappyTalks, we connect with older adults over the phone every day, and our work doesn’t stop there. We have a responsibility to help communities understand how AI impacts them. The good and the risky.

That’s why we created "AI + I: AI in the Real World," an in-person workshop and webinar series built to help older adults use AI safely, spot misinformation, and stay confident online.

Today is Ageism Awareness Day

It's the perfect time to change the perception of aging to fully reflect the gift that aging is

Don't know what ageism is?

Ageism refers to stereotypes (how we think), prejudice (how we feel), and discrimination (how we act) toward others or ourselves based on age. It negatively impacts our health and well-being, our financial security, and the economy. It impacts us at every age.

From the American Society on Aging, here's a quick guide to having an age-inclusive mindset: first person first

When in doubt, ask yourself questions such as:

● Is this a way I would like to be described?
● Am I talking about older adults or people of other ages as the “other”?
● Am I using stereotypes about people of a certain age?
● Have I represented the full experience of people of any age, including people
with different cultures, beliefs and identities?
● Are the images I’m using reinforcing stereotypes about people of a particular
age?

Try speaking in first person, e.g., instead of “the elderly need,” it could be “as we age,
we need.”

If it feels demeaning to think of yourself in the way you are describing others,
reconsider how you are making your point.

Let's continue to be grateful for every day we get to get old-ER!

As we launch our "Seasoned & Celebrated" highlights that showcase the incredible stories and lives of older adults, we had to start with all the fun folks we met at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's (AJC) Aging in Atlanta event.

The AJC is committed to facilitating conversations on the topics important to aging in Atlanta and providing those in the area with resources to live your best life.

Thank you to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Kaiser Permanente, Kroger Health and many others for holding space for seniors to access the latest information about Medicare, estate planning, and staying healthy!

Say heyyy 👋 to all the ladies that serendipitously had yellow on ☺️

We headed to East Point, Georgia to support a Fall Prevention seminar by Melba’s Heart Charitable Foundation, where over 100 seniors were ready to connect and learn.

We learned about protecting our cardiovascular health, studies with Emory University, home modifications and more.

Adding to our excitement, we learned that the first Village model in Georgia - a movement across the country that expands support for older adults aging in place - is starting right there in East Point! 🥳

Cheers to the Fulton County Senior Centers • for their great staff, beautiful spaces and active schedules!

Community: it’s a bridge of connection 💛

We loved being part of AgeTech Connect Nashville’s inaugural event - a powerful gathering of healthcare leaders, innovators, and senior living professionals committed to shaping the future of aging.

One question that stood out:
👉 “How do you convince people to care about something that doesn’t affect them?”

At HappyTalks, we believe the answer starts with connection.

When we listen to and learn from older adults today, we build the compassionate, supportive systems we’ll all want tomorrow.

Our HappyTalks Ambassador, Lynn, is an amazing human that always goes the extra mile for others.

Always in tow with flowers, we can take something from Lynn’s ethos of “how can I brighten someone’s day” ☀️

This stop on our Summer Listening Tour had our Chief Happiness Officer, Christian, and Lynn spending time with a spry 92 year old who shared stories of growing up in her father’s store, her ability to not cook despite a husband and 4 kids, and how her children now test her driving during their visits - a comical recollection of them all watching her on separate visits that finish with: YOU PASSED!

Lynn reminds us that joy is a gift we can offer every day. Whether it’s a quick call, a bouquet of blooms, or a smile shared—connection matters. 🌼
