All About Dr. Bacher

Hello and welcome! My name is Dr. Erica Carlin Bacher and I am a licensed clinical psychologist practicing in both the Morningside/Virginia Highlands and Buckhead areas. I understand that life can presents us with challenges which can cause pain, self-doubt, or feeling unfulfilled. There are times when we want to change something about ourselves or our current situation but have been unsuccessful or don't know how to go about it. Psychotherapy can help you overcome such barriers to achieve a more meaningful and satisfying life. I invite you to explore my website to learn more about my practice to help you determine whether my services might be a good fit for you.

I am an Atlanta-native who attended Woodward Academy high school and then went on to graduate magna cm laude with a bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of Michigan. Upon graduating, I returned to Atlanta to teach history and psychology at Ben Franklin Academy high school. I received my PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Arizona where I spent time researching psychotherapy for self-criticism and how to make psychotherapy more effective. I went on to complete a clinical internship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Medical School and a post-doctoral fellowship at Emory University. I am currently an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor at Emory University School of Medicine where I spend time providing clinical supervision.

I enjoy working with individuals struggling with a vast array of issues, including loneliness, self-criticism, trauma, stress, anxiety and depression. I also specialize in couples therapy and dating.

I have worked extensively in the area of health psychology helping people cope with chronic medical illnesses and make changes in health-related behaviors. In this work, I work hand-in-hand with medical treatment teams to provide a holistic approach to treatment, which addresses an individual’s physical and emotional well-being. I have provided consultation services for physicians and spent time facilitating a number of support groups in medical settings focusing on post-cancer recovery, diabetes management, and pain management. I have spent time teaching and training family medicine residents to help them be more effective in treating and interacting with their patients.
