📣 Let’s Talk About Prior Authorizations (PAs) 🧾💊
Why it feels slow, who’s responsible, and what you need to know as a patient.

👉 A prior authorization IS the actual prescription—except it requires your insurance to approve it before the pharmacy can fill it.

Here’s how it really works:

1️⃣ Provider’s Role (Us – )
✔️ We send in the prescription and initiate the PA if required.
✔️ We submit documentation, chart notes, and medical reasoning.
🚫 We do not decide how fast it’s approved, if it’s approved, or what is approved.

2️⃣ Insurance Company
🧩 They are the decision-makers. They review, approve, deny, or request more info.
⏳ Timelines vary—some are done in 24 hrs, others take days or weeks.
🛑 Even if the prescription is urgent, we cannot “rush” your insurance.

3️⃣ Pharmacy
💬 Sends the PA trigger to us if needed.
💻 Will NOT release the medication until insurance gives them the green light.

💡Key Reminder:
📞 Repeatedly calling the provider’s office won’t change the PA status.
✅ YOU as the patient must contact your insurance directly to escalate, clarify, or advocate for urgent needs.

We understand it’s frustrating. But PAs are an insurance requirement—not a provider delay. Your care team is here to support, but we are limited once the request leaves our hands.

NP Career Tip: Your Resume Might Be Costing You Opportunities

Nurse practitioner colleagues—let’s talk.

I’ve reviewed CVs from NPs across the country, and I keep seeing the same issue:
Too many resumes are just lists—job titles, degrees, certifications.

That’s not enough. That’s not how you stand out.

Here’s what you need to do:
1. Stop thinking like “just a worker.” Start thinking like a professional brand.
2. Create a full CV—not just a resume.
• For each job, add at least 2–4 sentences describing what you actually did.
• Include procedures, patient loads, leadership duties, areas of focus.
3. Don’t erase your RN experience. Group it if needed, but keep it in. It’s part of your journey.
4. Tell the story of your growth. Show who you are as a clinician and what you bring to the table.

If your resume doesn’t communicate your skill set, employers will assume you don’t have one.

Even agencies are going to want more than just a list—they’ll ask what you did. Save yourself the trouble and own your professional story up front.

You are a business. You are a high-level clinician. Present yourself like it.
A complete CV often leads to immediate interviews—or even offers. Don’t cut corners on yourself.
