Birth is a normal part of the female experience. Women have always wanted help, women have always helped. It's really that simple. Support and promote women having who and what they need and want while birthing.

I attended all three of this woman's births. This is the oldest meeting the youngest about an hour after the birth. I love the tender, private moments of home birth. I can be there making sure everyone is OK without intruding on this very personal, family event.

Alfalfa is the next ingredient in the pregnancy tea. It really is a powerhouse herb. It contains a wide variety of minerals including iron, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium to name a few. It is also a good source of Vitamin E, Vitamin C and Vitamin K, which is necessary for blood clotting. This is the main reason its included in the tea. We ask clients who don't drink the tea to take an alfalfa supplement. I believe it is very useful in decreasing postpartum bleeding. Studies show it can also increase milk supply and
help ease morning sickness.
Alfalfa hay is commonly given to pregnant horses and cows because of its blood building properties. When I was in Morocco I had an opportunity to visit a nomadic Berber woman in her tent. I asked about birth of course. She said they have issues with hemorrhages. I told her about putting some placenta in the mother's mouth, but also about alfalfa. I knew they carried it for the livestock. I think she might try the placenta but did not seem likely to make tea with the camel food.

Why is Oatstraw Always in a Pregnancy Tea?

First of all, what IS oatstraw? Oatstraw is the leafy sheafs and stalks that cover the oats. This part of the plant, that is usually discarded, contains the highest concentrations of bio-active aminos and polyphenols believed to support brain function, support sleep and reduce anxiety. The nutrient profile of oat straw includes chromium (important for healthy blood sugar control), magnesium, iron, calcium, phosphorous, vitamins A, C, and Bs. In addition to being loaded with blood building nutrients, minerals and vitamins, oat straw also provides a gentle calm to the nervous system, relieving feelings of exhaustion and depression. This plant also can help reduce blood pressure and balance your hormone production, making it an excellent postpartum tea as well. For all these reasons, it is in the very popular NORA blend for pregnancy (nettle, oatstraw, raspberry leaf, and alfalfa) and included in my Nourish Blend Pregnancy Tea. Look for it in our upcoming postpartum and breastfeeding tea!!!

You probably know I am a practicing midwife. This photo is at a 1 week postpartum visit. My student is doing the baby exam where the baby is most content, lol. This baby was born in the hospital (transfer from a homebirth). The placenta drew the admiration of the staff as "the healthiest placenta we've ever seen". Nourish Blend Pregnancy Tea and good diet for the win!! She continues to drink it postpartum, more on the benefits of that later.

Here is some info about the essential oils in the Birth Flow Peri Massage Oil. They were carefully selected provide the best help for your birth.

Bulgarian Lavender: This is just lavender from Bulgaria, known for its rich scent. This variety has a high linalool and linalyl acetate content, which are widely known to reduce stress and inflammation, and induce a calm state. Lavender also helps promote contractions.

Clary Sage: Is known to help increase contractions. Rubbing it and lavender (or this oil) on the belly and thighs is commonly used to induce labor. It has quite a sedating effect which can reduce adrenaline production and therefore aid oxytocin production. It is know for "clearing". It can clear negative energy from the laboring mother, or from others in the room. It clears tension from the body. Clary Sage is the MOST SEDATIVE of all essential oils, increases mental clarity and decreases the perception of pain.

Roman Chamomile: This relaxing oil can help reduce nausea and vomiting in labor. It works like lavender in reducing anxiety and promoting deep relaxation. When applied to the skin of the perineum it soothes the pain of stretching and prevents/reduces inflammation.

German Blue Chamomile: is an amazing anti-inflammatory. Its perfect for soothing the stretching skin as the baby emerges. Swollen skin is less stretchy! It also has antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiseptic properties which is wonderful to have applied before any tearing occurs (if it does)

Jasmine: This pricey oil is SO worth it in a birthing blend. It dulls uterine discomfort, strengthens contractions and promotes birth. It helps instill feelings of calmness and confidence. The beautiful scent promotes a dreamy relaxation.
