Did you know on average a breastfeeding mom needs approximately an additional 500 calories per day?

Most moms notice they are hungrier when they are on their breastfeeding journey. It is important to listen to your body and fuel it with foods that will keep your energy level up.

JBS believes that Self Care is essential for all parents. Everyone needs time aways from the demands and unconscious guilt of parenthood. Let us help you plan out what this looks like in one of our mini postpartum planning sessions.

A solo grocery trip is great, but it's not self-care for moms. Here are ways to help achieve self-care, and some products that help, too.

Please take a moment to understand why Doulas are so essential. Doulas will be the person that stands in the gap. Slows down the pace when you don’t have the words. To advocate for you when all the health professionals are doing the job that they have been trained to do but are leaving your feeling, needs, and wants out of the equation.

Unbiased care and compassion are apart of the training, but we are often seeing that it’s being eliminated for various reason.

Hey Mama, You can bring your support with you! Let us help you by standing in the gap and holding space for you.

Thanks Birth Uprising for such an eye opening and beautifully written post.

There’s a huge disconnect in medicine, and mothers are paying the price.

So many people go into hospital work (I’m not going to call it health care, because it’s not about health) truly wanting to help people. They see their profession as one of healing, where they take something broken and nurture it back to health. And medicine can be that if, for example, you’ve been in a serious accident. But birth is a natural, physiological process, not an accident or something to fix.

Over time so many hospital staff get worn down - they’re overworked, under-appreciated, and their facilities are under-staffed. They have high student loan debt from their education, and can’t afford to leave their position, even if it’s sucking the life out of them. They started out with good intentions, but have become disillusioned along the way. The patients they once saw as people deserving of compassion and true care, become numbers, become just a job.

Birth is one of the most important and life-changing events that ever happens to a woman. Even if a c-section becomes necessary, it doesn’t have to be a cold, callous procedure where the woman giving birth is afraid, crying, and not even acknowledged. No one should ever be treated this way. It costs no more time or money to look at someone as a person rather than a case number and to ease their fears.

Thanks for providing the research .ruddle.ibclc!!!
Lots of moms believe that their baby is going to sleep all night by six month! Ha!! We should normalize telling the truth birthworkers! Our babies should be waking up for feedings at night. Let’s talk about how we can make this work in your life Mama. Let’s stop trying to fit baby into our schedules and normalize slowing down our lives for babies just a little. 😘🌻✌🏽

You have every right to decline, walk out, and find a new provider. PERIOD!!!

Let’s us know if you need help finding one.

😘🌻✌🏽

Your cervix is not a crystal ball, & cervical checks prior to labor are useless.

If you’re treated like the woman in this quote PLEASE find a new provider. Please.

Unless you are about to be induced, there is no reason to check your dilation prior to labor (and there’s no real reason when you’re in labor as well, but that’s another story).

You could not be dilated at all one minute, and have your baby an hour later. Or you could progress from 1 to 5 centimeters in an hour, and then your labor could “stall”. No two births are the same.

Cervical checks can’t predict the future, but here’s what they CAN DO…

🔆 Introduce bacteria into your body, increasing your likelihood of infection

🔆 Make you feel inadequate

🔆 Decrease your confidence in your body

🔆 Increase the likelihood that your provider will suggest interventions

🔆 Increase the likelihood that you will agree to interventions because you’re feeling pressured.
