Davis County Midwives

Davis County Midwives Bonnie is a mother to three red headed boys, wife to a red bearded man, avid recipe maker, yogi, bookworm, and wanna-be world traveler.

She has supported hundreds of birthing people in many birth situations such as home births, special needs, c-section, and unmedicated births. She has been serving the birth community since 2014.

Bonnie is currently focusing her training to specialize in safe vaginal breech birth. She is committed to creating and maintaining a positive birth experience for a birthing person and their birth team.

When Bonnie is not focusing on her clients or promoting safe and healthy pregnancies for all birthing people in her community, she usually can be found in in her garden, on her yoga mat, running, or day dreaming of traveling the world with her family. Bonnie wishes she had more time to read and sleep, but such is the life of a midwife/mother and she wouldn't have it any other way! Karina is a mother of three, home DIYer and computer nerd.

Karina became passionate about improving birth experiences doing her own research and having a wonderful unmedicated first delivery, despite being categorized as high-risk due to having Type 1 Diabetes. Karina's goal as a midwife is simply to improve birth experiences – by helping to reduce physical and emotional trauma, by empowering through knowledge, and providing a safer birth experience led by your own body. Karina also has personal and professional experience with VBACs and diabetes during pregnancy and can skillfully educate on things that others may not have reason to know.

In her spare time she enjoys learning, camping and traveling with her three children and husband of twelve years.

They don't fear danger-they fear unpredictability.

Spontaneous labor isn't the problem. It's their need to control it that is.

A Mother is Born

Sacred strength
Riding the waves of intensity
Trust
While knowing deep down
This is your task alone
Balancing courage and fear

Every bead of sweat
Here to witness
The surge
The stretch
The roar
New life

A mother is born today
She holds new life
Her new life
Tender
Fragile
Sacred strength

And she rests
-Kandice Baird

To the mothers we've walked beside, thank you for letting us witness your courage. Thank you for your trust. To the partners, families, and supporters who uplift them, thank you for being a part of something so meaningful. Something bigger than all of us.

This work is our calling, and you make it sacred. We protect motherhood.

Happy Mother's day to *our* little mothers. Past, present, and future. You mean so much to us.

With love and gratitude,
The Davis County Midwives team.

May 9th brought us 3 babies. You read that right. THREE. All born within 6 hours of each other, and all well over 8 pounds.

When potential clients tour our birth center, we always get the question, "What happens if two people go at once?" It's a good question. Let's discuss:

The answer kind of comes in 3 parts:

1. First off, we keep our monthly client load intentionally small, ensuring we have the (wo)man power and mental capacity (one can only go so long without sleep) to give each client the highest level of individualized care.

2. Most often, babies line up and come single file. They really do! It is not uncommon for 2 moms to be gearing up for labor at the same time. When this happens, we lovingly joke about a "race to the finish line". But in reality, the chances of 2 moms needing the same level of hands on support at the same time is low.

3. *IF* it happens, our birth team and facility is set up for taking 2 laboring moms at once. We are staffed with 3 midwives, and 3 birth assistants that are ready to go when needed. As far as birth space: we have our main birth suite, and then our prenatal room breaks down into a second birth suite complete with a bed and a birth pool. Of course, if the planned birth sweet is already occupied, another option is always to stay home and we bring all of the supplies to YOU.

In the end, our highest priority is to serve you. We love the chaos of a good birth storm. It keeps us on our toes, and gives us many more memories together.

Looking for books to support your out-of-hospital birth journey? We've got you covered. Not all pregnancy and birth books are created equal. These are books we have actually read and studied. These are the books that build confidence, trust in your body, and support the midwifery model of care. (Minus the last one. You'll see when you get there.)

Whether you’re planning a home birth, birth center birth, or just want to understand your options, these reads will inform and empower you in the best ways.

Swipe through for a few of our favorite titles & short summaries of why they’re worth your time... or maybe not.

Have you read any of these books? Which one’s your favorite, or what would you add to the list? We love a good book recommendation!

It's raining, it's pouring... BABIES! 🌦👶

We had quite the birth storm last week. Our midwives were either at a birth, or gearing up for a birth, and were all somehow still able to make it to the Be Healthy expo. As we say, babies *usually* line up single file and take their turn, and everyone did just that. 😅

We are so proud of our clients.

We witness strength.
We witness surrender.
We witness magic.

We have seen pur clients overcome some really big hurdles lately. It is an honor amd a privilege to serve you.

Our final highlight is Whitney Anderberg with . If you are a current or prospective client, you may have seen Whitney around the clinic. She helps keep our birth center running smoothly.

Whitney is a mother of four children and an avid reader. She became immersed in the birth world following a short (but seemed to last forever) battle with infertility. She realized that the kind of birth she wanted didn't just happen without preparation and education. After her second child was born, Whitney became certified to teach HypnoBirthing: The Mongan Method. After her third child was born, she decided to become a doula officially, though she had been attending births since 2010.
Birth, labor, and parenting is a journey that usually doesn't end up quite where you think it should or will go and Whitney is honored to accompany families as they make their own path. Her goal is that everyone will leave the birth experience feeling educated and empowered and prepared to handle every turn their birthing takes.
