If you have an immigration case in which you’re trying to bring a biological relative into the United States and you need a DNA test, you should already know that your relative outside the U.S. must have their sample collected at the U. S. Embassy in the foreign country where they are living. Unfortunately, many, if not most, of those embassies are closed right now because of the COVID-19 pandemic. If you have a case in progress and have been given a deadline for the test results to be presented, how do you deal with that deadline if your family member cannot get an embassy appointment?
Intelligenetics is here to assist you. First and foremost, your DNA test must be initiated directly with the laboratory that will do the testing and that laboratory must be AABB Accredited. IntelliGenetics LLC in Atlanta is a fully accredited lab for the kind of testing you need. Be aware that there are a number of facilities that will advertise to sell you a test and say that they “work with” an accredited laboratory. However, they themselves are not accredited, and therefore unauthorized. Setting up your test with such a facility may expose you to having your test results thrown out, losing all of the fees you have paid for both the testing and the processing of your petition with immigration. You will have to start all over again from the very beginning.
Second, once you set up your test with IntelliGenetics, we will provide you with a letter to send to the immigration agency, often USCIS, attesting to that fact. Having arranged for a test, paid at least a deposit for your case, and having used our letter to notify the agency of that fact, your deadline date essentially vanishes. Your relative’s name will enter a queue, to be notified when the embassy reopens. They will be given an appointment for their sample collection and the process will resume. For our part, we can collect your sample in Atlanta (or arrange to have it done elsewhere, if necessary) and will also send a collection kit to the embassy for the foreign collection. We cannot expedite your relative’s collection, nor can we inquire as to the projected date of that collection. You, or your beneficiary relative, will have to make all inquiries about your case. But we will stand ready to complete your testing as soon as your relative’s sample is received.
