DID, previously known as Multiple Personality Disorder, is characterized by the presence of two or more distinct personality states, which can significantly impact an individual’s sense of self and daily life.
Facts about DID:
• DID is often a response to severe trauma or abuse, usually occurring in childhood.
• Individuals with DID may experience gaps in memory, feeling like they’ve lost time or were unaware of their actions.
• DID is a coping mechanism that helps individuals dissociate from overwhelming emotional or physical pain.
Signs to Watch For:
• Gaps in memory or losing time (for example, forgetting events, conversations, or even whole days).
• Feeling like different parts of the self take over, such as a different voice or mannerisms.
