We appreciate the patience and understanding from everyone these past two weeks. We’ve been faced with an impossible timeline to navigate and have explored every option to move forward with no attainable solution. Therefore, it is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we have to announce the closure of the practice.

We can attend births at AMC until 10/10/22 if patients choose to stay during that time. Patients will be transferred out and oriented to new providers to ensure a safe transition and continuity of care. Providence Midwifery has assured us that they will welcome our patients with open arms.

The announcement of WellStar Atlanta Medical Center’s closing came as a shock to us all and we share in your frustration. We have taken this past week to explore every possible scenario to continue on. We’ve received conflicting information regarding the hospital's timeline to close and this past weekend, Wellstar has provided us with details that indicate we cannot deliver patients after 10/10/22. AMC has assured us that labor and delivery will continue to be supported in this time frame. We will be having individual conversations with patients about their options. We are in talks with other locations to continue to provide care and will update you as soon as we know something more.

Appreciation post for our collaborating physician, Dr. Cherise James. She provides pregnancy and gynecological care in the office and acts as our back-up physician when we attend births at the hospital.

WE CAN NOT DO WHAT WE DO WITHOUT HER and consider ourselves beyond fortunate that Dr. James is a part of our team; her support for the midwifery model of care and gentle approach as a physician is a rare and beautiful combination.

Her support and advocacy allows us to be one of the top VBAC providers in Atlanta with a success rate above 85%!

P.S. Dr. James is incredibly camera shy and has no interest in becoming a celebrity OB, despite our constant accolades 😋

Say hello to Tiffany 👋

She has worked in sonography for 21 years, with a specialty in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Tiffany is certified with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography; and has spent majority of her career working in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, as well as some time in Neonatal Cranial Sonography and General sonography. As part of Intown Midwifery, Tiffany has worked hard to create an intimate and comfortable ultrasound experience for each family.

International Women's Day is March 8. It is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

Today we honor all the women who came before us, we stand on their shoulders. Especially to the woman who founded Intown Midwifery, our elder and true champion of birthing options in this great city and beyond, on the eve of her birthday-we thank you, Margaret Strickhouser.

We've had an influx of calls this week and want to answer some of the more common questions about our birthing services:

1. We have and always will provide the Midwifery model of care to our patients, this includes options and freedoms for patients in labor including (but not limited to): intermittent monitoring, water labor and birth support, VBAC support, freedom to move around, different positioning, eating and drinking in early labor, delayed cord clamping, skin to skin contact, respect for the golden hour and family centered cesareans.

2. AMC is the only hospital that we've delivered at for the past 11 years and they have continually supported our providers and have NOT changed anything about the options they allow mentioned above.

3. Most patients come to us for an unmedicated vaginal delivery and our stats are right on par with the safe, effective, evidence based model of care that we employ:

VBAC success: 85%

Cesarean: 12-14%
