Rahama has 2 surgeries coming up in 2023 that will transform her face to a more normal appearance. The entire right side of her face was damaged by a NOMA infection when she was only 2 years old, in 1991. She left her home in Ghana then and travelled to Norfolk VA where she was blessed by Operation Smile to have many procedures over the years. Her appearance could never be restored but new technology and procedures now offer her the changes she has dreamt of. She will travel to Johns Hopkins University Hospital twice in 2023 for reconstructive surgery to make her face more symmetrical, her nose and mouth more functional and give her a prosthetic eye.
