Prepping for my October Home Series and I've been thinking about the things in my home that I love just as much today as the day it came into my house. Top of the list for me is our cheetah stair runner. This simple snapshot I posted on Pinterest 15 years ago has been re-pinned almost 1 million times! I chose cheetah because it's a little unexpected and I knew I would enjoy seeing it the multiple times each day I walk past my stairs. Other things are a pair of quilted pillow shams on my bed and my mom's blue cornflower CorningWare. I'd love to have you comment below something in your own home that you continue to love day after day.

As cooler weather and the holiday seasons approach and most of us are at home more, I am getting ready to do a new video series here all about home and hospitality: decorating, home accessories for holidays that will also work all year, purging and organizing, recipes, gift giving, hosting, and bringing the fun to home function. I'm a self-taught interior decorator who has helped over 200 families make their houses into beautiful homes since 2010. I love social media crowd sourcing so if there's something you'd like me to cover, please leave a comment and I'll make sure to include it. Thank you!

{90 DAY GOALS}- This is my second year planning out 90 day goals for myself. I love breaking them down by quarter instead of creating a list of GOALS FOR THE YEAR that so overwhelms me by early February that I just quit. Speaking of overwhelm, I'm here to say I did not come anywhere close to meeting my first 90 day goal for 2023 (Jan-Feb-March). Zilch. Nada. Zero of my goal met. That would send the old me off the rails completely and I'd be done for the year. The current me just moves it to the second 90 days and keeps going. Without my 90 DAY GOAL habit I would have missed out on accomplishing so many things. Join me in this second 90 days of 2023. Little goal or something big. Try it. I think you'll like it!

Making lists has change my life in SO MANY ways. For years I've been making weekly to-do lists, annual home project lists, and bucket lists for milestone birthdays. Do I do everything on the list? No! Do I do more than I would have if it didn't write it down? For sure! Here are ten benefits of writing things down:

1. Clears space for higher level brain things / creates clarity
2. Helps process the important vs the not important
3. Creates an historical record
4. Gives a sense of achievement - crossing things off is so satisfying
5. Helps us think bigger
6. Increases commitment
7. Is a key piece in creating motivation
8. Helps with self reflection
9. Increases our ability to remember by at least 23%
10. Reduces stress by framing tasks in a positive way

As we begin to think about goals for this new year, start thinking about how you want to use one of your most precious gifts: TIME! Focus on things that are TIME MAKERS: saying no, practicing constraint, planning, being open to accepting help, focusing on the future, and having an abundance mindset. Avoid Time TAKERS: worrying, buffering (eating, drinking, shopping, scrolling), indecisiveness, people pleasing, doing it all alone, being overwhelmed, focusing on the past, and having a mindset centered around lack.

The STRESS(ors) we all need:
•Fasting
•Sun
•Heat (sauna, please!)
•Exercise (lift weights!)
•Cold

They make a difference! Try one, then add another and another. I'm still working on cold - cryotherapy session coming up Saturday 🥶

If had to choose just one supplement to take, hands down I'd choose MAGNESIUM. It is safe to take, easy to find, and affordable. It helps in hundreds of biochemical reactions in our bodies including gene maintenance, muscle movement and recovery, nerve regulation, and insulin management. It can help fight depression and inflammation, aid in lowering blood pressure, and help us get good quality sleep. There are different types of magnesium for different functions. I take 200mg malate in the morning for energy and brain function and 200-300mg glycinate at night for sleep. Bonus: Take your Vit D with magnesium for better absorption.

{Three on Thursday} Three things I do in my kitchen at night that make my mornings feel organized and happy:
1) scrub my kitchen sinks, rinse with hot water, and wipe dry with a paper towel 2) fill my Keurig with water so it's ready for that much needed morning cup of coffee 3) clear off the counters, put a couple drops of orange essential oil on a damp cloth, wipe and dry.

On January 1 I started a little health experiment. I'd been plant based, whole food eating for a couple years but still struggled with inflammation issues, my thyroid was still wonky despite years of functional medicine doctors, my hair was thinning, and I wanted to slim down. I started doing something simple but a little hard. I fast. Every day I INTERMITTENT FAST for 19 hours. I stop eating at 7pm and have my next meal at 2pm the next afternoon. My eating window is 7 hours. Every month on the 1st and the 20th I do EXTENDED fasting for 4 or 5 days. I only drink black coffee (sometimes with a little ghee or heavy whipping cream), 1 gallon of water per day, and a cup of bone broth at night. I've reset my thyroid, calmed my inflammation, my hair's stopped falling out, and I lost 5% body fat and 30 pounds in 5 months. I look 10 years younger (inflammation ages us!) and feel fantastic. Sometimes we over complicate healthy living because we think hard things could never be simple. I'm here to tell you, they can!

In my last video HOW FOOD WORKS, I talked a lot about inflammation and its role in causing disease / dis-ease in our bodies. Measuring C-Reactive Protein (CRP) via blood is a good measure of your level of inflammation.

TURMERIC (more specifically its active ingredient CURCUMIN) is a great, natural inflammation fighter, but we have to pay attention to the bioavailability factor ..meaning the extent and rate at which it enters systemic circulation for use in the body. Three things make turmeric/curcumin bioavailable:
1) take with black pepper
2) take with a good fat
3) take it warm

I've been taking Gaia turmeric powder mixed in a cup of hot decaf tea with a couple splashes of heavy whipping cream (good fat) and a packet of raw sugar each evening. I like this particular product because it includes black pepper extract.

Dosing recommendation is 1000-2000mg per day (though more can be beneficial) so I am working toward using this 2x per day.

Podcasts are my favorite way to get information on all things health. I love hearing personal experiences from the show hosts and guests. Here are four I listen to regularly. Happy Friday!

I'm a fan of high dosing Vitamin C~ I take 4,000-6,000mg per day. It's a powerful antioxidant, aids in collagen production, protects against heart disease, and supports healthy immune function. And here's an extra perk during ALLERGY SEASON: Vitamin C prevents the formation of histamine which causes watery eyes, excess mucus, and runny noses...whereas over-the-counter antihistamines (Zyrtec, Allegra) work on interfering with the histamine only after it's produced.
