π PhD Project Opportunity! π
This research project will examine cardiovascular health and risk factors among African migrants living in WA. Areas of focus will include systematic review of interventions aimed at improving heart health of African migrants, secondary data analysis of linked data, exploring perspectives of African communities about cardiovascular health, and co-designing a culturally responsive health promotion action to enhance cardiovascular health among Africans living in WA. This Curtin University PhD Project supervised by Dr Emmanuel Badu, Dr Marshall M. and Associate Professor Gemma Crawford with the Collaboration for Evidence, Research and Impact in Public Health (CERIPH) will will contribute to understanding how the wider determinants of migrant health and wellbeing including how source country factors may interact with host country factors to shape health behaviour.
π If you are identified as the preferred candidate for this project, you may be considered for a Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship. Curtin University currently offers a higher base stipend of $37,500 AUD per annum, tax-free, for a maximum duration of up to three years and six months full-time equivalent. In total, the annual scholarship package, which includes both the stipend and coverage of tuition fees is valued at approximately $70,000 AUD per year.
Ideally, the applicant will have:
πΈ a background in public health, health promotion, social or behavioural sciences;
πΈ an interest in community-facing, policy-relevant research;
πΈ strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
πΈ excellent written communication skills including the peer-reviewed and grey literature;
πΈ strong project management skills;
πΈ ability to work independently and as part of a team; and
πΈ experience or interest in mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative) approaches.
