“You are the spark. And Georgia is brighter because of you.” 🎓

CIDI Executive Director Bill Curtis-Davidson delivered powerful remarks at the Emanuel Women’s Facility Braille Program Graduation, where CIDI recently celebrated the achievements of the women who have graduated from our braille program with certificates that can take them anywhere. 🚀

Through our partnership with the Georgia Department of Corrections, graduates have earned nationally recognized certifications and contributed directly to accessible education—transcribing over 60,000 Braille pages and producing 120 tactile graphics this year alone.

Their work supports blind students across Georgia and beyond, enabling access to STEM, literature, and more. 💡

The program has saved Georgians over $500,000 and generated over $400,000 in earnings for reentering graduates.📈

Those who graduate from this program? Have a 0% recidivism rate. That's right; those who successfully receive a certificate never return to prison again. 🎉

These women are changing lives—and rewriting their own stories.

Celebrating 80 Years of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)! 🎉

This October marks the 80th anniversary of NDEAM, and we're proud to spotlight our work in advancing employment opportunities for people with disabilities.⬇️

1. We house a $4.3 million project called ACCESS-PD RRTC, which studies the employment experiences of people with physical disabilities. It will also establish a National Resource Center that will disseminate findings and technical assistance.

2. CIDI also houses the Advanced Rehabilitation Research and Training (ARRT) fellowship to train Occupational Therapists by giving them mentorship and training through a full program of research, from grant writing to dissemination. This fellowship produces capable researchers while addressing knowledge gaps and disparities in employment for people with disabilities.

3. We provide training on a wide variety of disability-related topics, from digital accessibility to creating accessible documents to disability awareness training. By equipping public and private enterprises with the tools to include people with disabilities in the workforce, we expand opportunities for all.

As we this October, we recognize the vital contributions of all workers with disabilities, and hope that our work continues to open doors for future opportunities for people with disabilities. ♿
