ABCs of ABA: I is for Imitation 👀 Imitation is when a child copies another person’s actions, sounds, or words.

✅ Example: A therapist claps, and the child claps too.

💡 Why it matters: Imitation is one of the first steps in learning. It helps children develop social skills, communication, and play behaviors. By practicing imitation in therapy, children gain confidence and learn to engage with others, which lays the foundation for more complex skills over time.

*"Hi my name is Laila Rogers. I am born and raised in Los Angeles, CA I graduated from Clark Atlanta University in 2023 with a bachelor’s in Psychology, and I’ve been working as a Registered Behavior Technician since May of that year. While in college, I was drawn to the field of Applied Behavior Analysis with the help of one of my psychology professors. So I decided to become an RBT since I’ve always had a passion for helping children and supporting their growth. What I love most about this role is forming meaningful connections with the clients I work with and celebrating their progress, whether it’s a big milestone or a small step forward."*

ABCs of ABA: H is for Hand-Over-Hand Prompting ✋ This is a teaching strategy where the therapist gently guides a child’s hands to complete a task.

✅ Example: Helping a child stack blocks by guiding their hands.
