ABCs of ABA: P is for Prompting 🧩

Prompting is when a therapist provides a cue or assistance to help a child complete a skill successfully. Prompts can be verbal, visual, gestural, or physical — and they’re always designed to promote independence over time. For example, a therapist may model a word or gently guide a hand to complete a task, then fade that support as the child learns.

Prompting helps children build confidence, reduce frustration, and experience success step by step.

ABCs of ABA: O is for Overcorrection 🧩

Overcorrection is a teaching strategy where a child practices the correct behavior several times after a mistake. It’s not a punishment — it’s about learning responsibility and reinforcing the right actions.

Example: If a child accidentally spills water, they may be guided to clean it up and practice placing the cup properly. This teaches care, responsibility, and attention to detail.
