The Evolution Project

The Evolution Project "SUGGEST TO FRIENDS" above to help this page reach 1,000 fans. The Evolution Project is distinguished by the active leadership and involvement of the members.

The Evolution Project is a program for young black gay/bisexual men and transgender individuals 18 through 28 years old. This is a safe space that helps young people to connect, develop strengths and skills, support each other, have fun and achieve positive goals. The program staff assists members to enhance their HIV and STD risk reduction skills by utilizing the will, talent and vision of the members themselves. Members play an intricate role in planning activities, special events, and design of the space. Examples include movie nights, discussions, cookouts, card games, parties, balls, community forums and more. The Evolution Project provides access to HIV testing and STD screening at on and off-site locations. Members are provided linkage to free medical screenings, case management, HIV/STD treatment and other health care services. Additionally, the Evolution Project offers mental health services such as individual, relationship and group counseling. For more information about the Evolution Project, volunteering and/or program activities, please contact Larry Walker at (404) 524-5441 or larry.walker@aidatlanta.org.

“ It's time someone else came to me
not to patronize me physically,
sexually or humorously.
I'm sick of being an endangered species,
sick of being a goddamn statistic.
So what are my choices? “
~

We love our brothers, however, we see them swirling, spinning, and going round the drain.
Love requires courage.
It’s time we talk about the drugs.

Tune in Wednesday, May 5th at 7PM on Facebook Live.

HIV Disclosure Laws consistently have been used a weapons against HIV-positive people and it has to stop. It’s rooted in entitlement and privilege without any regard to people living with HIV.

Instead of focusing on knowing the status of others, we should focus on knowing and addressing our own. If everyone managed their own status instead trying to get the tea on others, HIV transmission rates would fall.

Did you know statistically, most infections happen from people who are unaware of their status, not from HIV- positive people who are in care. Have the conversation but don’t weaponize the intent. Being HIV-negative doesn’t make you better than those who are diagnosed.

you don’t need to know everyone else’s status— .

“There is no transmission with personal accountability”.

If you need to find an HIV testing site near you, check out freeHIVtest.net.

? Let’s talk about it.

We ain’t yucking anyone’s yum, but sexual conversations are an understated form of prevention when it comes to STI’s. 👀💫💦

Don’t gurgle and then gag bisshhhh!

We are accountable.

Today we want to take a moment and look in the mirror. isn't just a pill, it's also how we each other. continues to be a top killer of our community and frankly, when is enough, enough?

There have been great strides in HIV efforts, with reports like this: https://www.cdc.gov/hiv/group/racialethnic/africanamericans/index.html showing some favorable results, however, more work still needs to happen.

Many of us experience stigma from church, from our families, and even from within our own LGBTQ community and sadly, some of us perpetuate this trauma in the words we use, the actions we take and yes, even the silence we buy into.

Today, take a moment and reflect on how you have helped or hindered your brother and sister. Knowing our status is important however the treatment of our known status is just as crucial. We are accountable.

Care isn't just about one's medication, is about creating safe and nurturing spaces for healing, acceptance and support. You, HIV negative, positive and yes even those who remain untested, are apart of our care. Let's be accountable to one another. Simply put, HIV is OUR experience, regardless of your status. Whether you are in an organization, group or alone, be mindful of how you use your platform, position, and perspective.

Do your part to end the trauma not just the epidemic.
