Spoiler alert: telemedicine can help!

Many rural hospitals do not have the capacity to accommodate patient surge. Lack of on-site capabilities to treat very ill patients may require transferring patients which can be difficult if transportation is limited or unavailable.

ASPR TRACIE met with three health care professionals from California to discuss how they managed their individual facilities’ responses. The health care professionals also worked with hospital staff in rural Imperial County to help augment capacity and accommodate patient surge. Learn how to apply their strategies to your facility’s emergency preparedness plan.https://files.asprtracie.hhs.gov/documents/augmenting-rural-hospital-capacity-in-california-lessons-learned-covid.pdf
