The SRDRS Disaster Tele-EMS pre-drill evaluated a deployable telemedicine physician model during the Georgia National Fair (Oct 2–12) in partnership with PAVES and Emory Healthcare EMS. The pilot supported medical control for high-risk refusals, treat-and-release decisions, and select clinical guidance, helping reduce unnecessary transports and mitigate hospital surge at a large-scale event.
Across 173 EMS encounters, 12 tele-physician consults were completed with no adverse outcomes, rapid response times, and high provider and patient satisfaction. The exercise confirmed the importance of onsite facilitators, just-in-time training, and redundant connectivity, demonstrating that deployable Tele-EMS is a feasible and scalable tool for mass gatherings and disaster response.
