Sports Medicine South is looking to add a Certified Medical Coder and Authorization Specialist to our growing team! Sports Medicine South is an all inclusive Orthopedic and Sports Medicine practice that has serviced the Atlanta community for over 10 years! This individual needs to be a self-starter who can manage/prioritize multiple tasks at a time. You will be responsible for managing all pre-authorizations required by any in-office procedures as well as out outpatient/inpatient surgeries. Additionally, the individual will manage our office's coding from patient E&M and procedures. Must be able to work in a team atmosphere with Medical Providers, Billing Manager and Admin personnel.

MUST have medical coding certification - CPC, Orthopedics is preferred
2 years of Medical Billing/Coding Experience required
Associates Degree is preferred
Full-Time
M-F 8:30am - 5:30pm
One Work Location

Essential Job Functions

Recommend correct coding of medical claims
Analyzing and interpreting medical records to ascertain medical coding
Uses the company Practice Management software to enter coding for claim submission
Resolve coding/billing-related issues through the company's Practice Management software
Perform full cycle medical coding billing for multispecialty physician(s) and hospital services to include reviewing medical record documentation and medical claims to ensure the complete coding of all relevant procedures, diagnoses
Communicate coding changes and answer coding questions from staff
Maintain knowledge of medical service coding and guidelines
Adhere to official coding guidelines as dictated by governing agencies and insurances
Recommend specific coding guidelines to medical providers and management as needed
Perform clinical coding review to ensure accuracy of medical coding and utilizes clinical expertise and judgment to determine correct coding & billing
Verify patient eligibility and benefits prior to all surgical procedures
Verify pre-authorization requirements for any major in-office procedures, MRIs and surgical procedures
If required, obtain pre-authorization(s) in a timely manner to the scheduled procedure
Document all authorization information into the company's EHR/Practice Management software
Stay up to date on all pre-authorization requirements by individual insurance carriers and communicate those to appropriate clinical staff
Use required platforms (i.e. web portals) to obtain authorizations as dictated by individual insurance carriers

Last Wednesday evening Dr. Levengood was awarded the first ever "Pioneer" Award at the 10th Annual Gwinnett Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. He was honored for his years of commitment and service to both Gwinnett County schools, sports programs and athletes. His impact involvement in Gwinnett County schools and sports started back in 1995 when he took place as the first team physician in the county at Brookwood High School and has grown ever since. We, along with the community, congratulate him as his long-standing commitment as he was publicly honored.

We celebrated the 9th Year of the Linda Jones Memorial Scholarship this past Saturday during the Football Allstar Game! Sports Medicine South and their vendor sponsors have been able to award 1 player from each of the 24 Gwinnett County football teams with a $1000 scholarship to their college of choice - totaling over $200,000 awarded in scholarship money to date. Linda Jones was a remarkable woman of high character and community citizenship - we are excited to see this year’s recipients carry on her legacy as they embark on the next chapter of their lives. Congratulations to all the outstanding young men who received this year’s scholarship - best wishes for a wonderful future ahead!

As always, we are honored to be an integral part of the Gwinnett Touchdown Club each year! Last night we helped honor football athletes & coaches throughout Gwinnett County at the year-end banquet. We are proud to be a partner to a community that is producing outstanding athletes, and even more importantly, exemplary young men who undoubtedly will make positive marks on the world in their futures.

We would also like to highlight Coach Andy Dyer & The Archer High School Football Team as recipients of the annual Beyond Better Award, presented by Sports Medicine South. Coach Dyer & his team's support of 2 young men in through Compassion International is a mark of and outstanding to others.

The staff consider ourselves a work family. One of our staff members recently welcomed a sweet baby boy into this world and unfortunately he has been facing some tough challenges these recent weeks.
