After Your Hike, Do A Quick Self Check.

“One of our patients presented with concerns regarding a lesion that seemed to be changing in size. Upon examination, it turned out to be a tick from her latest hike.”

Ticks are sneaky, and can latch on during your time in nature without you noticing.

Some can carry Lyme disease and other infections, making post hike self-checks a vital part of your adventure routine.

What should you do?

✔️ Check your entire body after walks in wooded or grassy areas and don’t forget behind the knees, scalp, and underarms.
✔️ Shower soon after coming indoors to help wash off unattached ticks.
✔️ Take a lint roller ( yes a lint roller ) and run it over your body to remove any lingering creatures.
✔️Don’t forget the tiny humans in the family as well.
✔️ Throw clothes in the dryer on high heat for 10 minutes to kill ticks.
✔️ If you spot a tick remove it promptly with tweezers (grab close to the skin, pull straight out).
✔️ Watch for symptoms like rashes or flu-like signs in the days following

🌞 Skin Cancer Doesn’t Discriminate

Early Detection Saves Lives

This beautiful patient is a vibrant 35 year old with Fitzpatrick skin type IV. She noticed a small, darkened spot on her fingertip but thought little of it.

Over time, it changed in shape and size. By the time she sought help, it was diagnosed as melanoma, the deadliest form of
skin cancer.

1) Biopsy confirmed the presence of melanoma.
2) Mohs surgery was performed to remove the cancerous tissue with precision.

Melanoma is estimated to cause 8,430 deaths in the U.S. in 2025, with over 104,000 new cases diagnosed. It’s the deadliest form of skin cancer, accounting for a majority of skin cancer deaths despite being less common.
