Taking time for self-nurturing is essential for parents ✨. Today, I’m sharing three self-nurturing rituals that can make a big difference in your well-being:

1. Hydrotherapy + Tapping: Combine the soothing power of cold water with gentle tapping on your chest to release tension and restore balance.

2. Body Shaking: Shake off stress and anxiety with simple, rhythmic movements. It’s a fantastic way to reset your nervous system and boost your energy.

3. Box Breathing: A powerful technique to calm your mind and body. Inhale for four counts, hold for four, exhale for four, and hold again for four. This practice promotes relaxation and mental clarity.

These quick, simple rituals can help you stay grounded, calm, and resilient in your parenting journey.

EXCITING UPDATE!

We recently shared our exciting announcement about the Georgia Fund for Perinatal Mental Health's exciting new partnership with PSI Georgia Chapter. We are honored to share that Georgia Department of Public Health has now granted us a 1-year contract that will fund this new program, as of July 1!

With this financial support, we are now able to provide fully funded therapy to SO many more perinatal parents in need across our state this coming year.

As we know, Georgia has a long way to go to address issues of mental health care access, maternal health justice, and healthcare equity. We are hopeful that this new collaboration with DPH, PSI Georgia Chapter, and the Georgia Fund for Perinatal Mental Health will help us reach even more of the families who most need our support.

Please help celebrate this news by spreading the word!

Applications are OPEN to all perinatal mothers and parents across our state: georgiafund.org/apply ⭐️

Mourning your pre-baby self is a natural and valid part of the motherhood journey.

It’s tough seeing friends “living their best life” on social media while you’re at home with a newborn, sleep-deprived and fighting for your sanity 🙃.

Here are three tips to cope with these feelings:

✨Limit your social media time to avoid constant comparisons.

✨Create small moments of self-nurturing throughout your day, like a warm cup of tea or a quick walk outside.

✨ Connect with other moms who understand and can offer support and validation. You’re not the only one feeling this way, I promise.

STORY TIME 🦋: The day I came home with my first baby felt like one of the saddest days of my life. A deep sense of grief washed over me as I laid her in her bassinet, knowing my life had changed forever. I crawled into bed, put my head on my partner’s chest, and cried deeply. I was mourning the loss of my freedom, and it felt like I would never get it back.

I kept these feelings to myself, fearing comments like “this is what you get when you have a baby” or “you should be grateful.” So, I cried and cried that night, unable to sleep as the baby kept me awake. This was the beginning of my journey with postpartum depression and anxiety.

✨Remember, it’s okay to feel mixed emotions while adjusting to your new life with your little one. Motherhood is hard and you’re doing a great job 💕

Have you tried micro-journaling before? ✍🏽 As moms, we don’t always have a lot of time or energy to take care of ourselves the way we need to. Many of us don’t have the support systems we need either. This isn’t YOUR fault, it’s giving CAPITALISM *cough cough*.

So, until we’re free from these oppressive systems, we must find ways to nurture, soothe and empower ourselves and then, our families and our communities ✨

Give this a try and let me know how it goes for you in the comments 🙌🏽

Self-Nurturing During Pregnancy & Postpartum is Important 🌿

Motherhood can be a beautiful journey, but it can also be a time of heightened emotions and stress for many parents. Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or sad can make caring for yourself, finding calm, and regulating your nervous system *seem* impossible at times.

A little self-nurturing and the right support system go a long way toward feeling better day by day.

I know sometimes it's hard to find the time or motivation, so here are three small + simple ways to nurture yourself during pregnancy and postpartum:

🪷 Deep Breathing: Try 1-3 minutes of deep breathing exercises like the 3/3/3 breaths throughout your day. Throw in a few loud sighs at the end of your exhale to soothe and release tension. You can do this while showering, changing a diaper, at your desk, or while taking a few glorious moments alone.

🪷Gentle Movement: Literally just swaying your body back and forth with your eyes closed for 3 minutes while breathing deeply can quickly boost your mood. Add a few minutes of cat/cow or child's pose to get some endorphins flowing. If you have more time, 20 minutes of yoga or a walk outside are great, too!

🪷 Micro-Journaling: Sometimes, it helps to get your thoughts out of your head and on paper. Set your timer for 2-5 minutes to write out how your body feels now and all the thoughts or worries racing through your mind. This format may be helpful to get started ↓

"I am feeling XYZ (ex. heaviness in my chest and my heart is racing fast) in my body because I keep having thoughts that XYZ (ex. I'm not a good mother or how I can't handle this)." Then, take a few deep breaths.

✨Self-nurturing is about taking intentional, gentle actions to care for your own mind, body, and spirit. It doesn't need to take up much time or be fancy; even small efforts can provide relief in the moment.

If you need additional support and strategies along the way, counseling with a perinatal mental health-trained therapist, a perinatal mental health coach, and social support groups (or all 3!) can be helpful along your journey.
