As AI continues to shape and reshape what our daily lives and careers look like, I had to reflect on the rise of people using ChatGPT as a therapist.

This is a nuanced conversation, because I strongly feel that if my field hadn't historically failed so many people and become so inaccessible, we might not be seeing this shift.

I also think that in general some people would just prefer not interacting with a human.

What are your thoughts about using ChatGPT as a therapist?

Let's talk about some of the reasons mental health practitioners are opting out of insurance panels.

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list and there are many, many pros and cons to this decision and I am highlighting only a few of the pros and cons here.

The honest and short version is that our system is not currently set up well enough to support practitioners and meet the needs of the general public in a sustainable way.

Have you encountered challenges with finding someone on your insurance? What are your thoughts?

Disability pride is powerful. It’s not passive. And it’s not for your inspiration — it’s a demand for equity.

Disabled people deserve more than visibility. They deserve access, protection, and care that honors complexity, not just productivity.

If you're a therapist, healer, or wellness professional, ask yourself:
🛠 Are your services truly accessible?
🛠 Do you honor rest as sacred?
🛠 Do you believe disabled folks when they tell you what they need?

Healing is not separate from justice.
Wellness practices must include:
✔ Access-centered design
✔ Pacing that honors bodyminds
✔ The right to say no and assert needs

Pride is being unapologetically whole — even in a world that tries to deny your worth.

This BIPOC Mental Health Month, I want you to know:
You are not here to just survive systems that hurt you.
You deserve support, softness, space, and culturally-rooted care.

Let this be your reminder:
✨ You’re allowed to feel joy and grief at the same time
✨ Your healing doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s
✨ You don’t have to hold it all alone

Wellness + advocacy in practice means:
– Refusing to shrink yourself for anyone’s comfort
– Uplifting other BIPOC therapists, organizers, and artists
– Reclaiming your own rhythms of rest and care

Save this for the hard days.
Tag someone who deserves to be reminded.
You matter. Deeply. ❤️

In the spirit of pride month, I wanted to post some facts and information about the importance of supporting LGBTQIA+ informed programs and professionals.

Overwhelmingly, it is challenging for LGBTQIA+ folks to receive informed care and *affirming* care, which can lead to avoidance of much needed mental and physical healthcare.

Some great places to seek care are: The LGBTQ Healthcare Directory, The Affirming Couch, The Trevor Project, and the National Q***r and Trans Therapists of Color Network ❤️

In recognition of PTSD Awareness Month, I wanted to address some myths about PTSD and provide some resources.

PTSD can affect anyone who was impacted or exposed to traumatic events. Its onset can be immediate or delayed. The good news is that there are many treatment options that don't involve re-exposure or talk therapy.

If you or someone you know has PTSD, know that you are not alone and there is help available ❤️ Check out or for more

A strong therapist-patient relationship is key to successful treatment, and feeling safe is paramount.

With the current worsening social and political climate, it is important to ask your therapist where they stand on the issues that matter to you.

Do they use a depathologizing approach? Are they working to decolonize their practice?
What do they document and track?
When do they share or disclose information?

You're entitled to know and feel secure.
Feel empowered to ask the questions that matter.

The world is a mess, so reduce your stress! Take a step back, and DO LESS! 😄

05/06/2025

This is a powerful message and I hope you all watch it to the end! This video was inspired by my conversation with someone about how the notion of "being strong" can actually harm Black women and men. It's time for us to discover the strength to let go of the past, be vulnerable, and prioritize our well-being. I'd love to hear your thoughts, so please share them below!

Let's talk about something real... How many of us have seen people justify passing on their own trauma to their kids? It's time to break free from that cycle and focus on healing ourselves. ❤️
