Who’s Most at Risk for Cardiac Arrest?

According to the American Heart Association, sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a leading cause of death in the U.S., with over 356,000 out-of-hospital cases annually—and nearly 90% are fatal.

📍 Most Susceptible Populations:

Adults at Home: 73.9% of adult Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCAs) happen in private residences

Children: 87.5% of pediatric Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCAs) occur at home, often unwitnessed

Young Athletes: Sports-related Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCAs) accounts for 39% of cases in those under 18

Older Adults in Hospitals: Over 292,000 adult in-hospital cardiac arrests occur each year

🫀 Why It Matters: Cardiac arrest can strike without warning. Knowing who’s most at risk helps us target CPR training, AED access, and early intervention strategies.
