Here's what has changed in the US with the new childhood vaccine reccomendations after the CDC just implemented huge changes to its vaccination policy.
Recommended vaccines reduced from 17 to 11
50+ doses moved to choice between parents and doctor based on child's needs
Vaccines are now grouped into 3 categories:
1- Recommended for all children
2- Recommended for high-risk children
3- Shared clinical decision-making
That last category provides greater choice, discussion and clarity for parents.
Vaccines that REMAIN on the schedule:
- MMR
- DTaP
- Hib
- Pneumococcal
- Chickenpox
- HPV
There are no bans or removals.
Vaccines moved to shared clinical decision-making:
- Hepatitis B
- COVID-19
- Influenza
- Rotavirus
- Hepatitis A
- Meningococcal ACWF
- Meningococcal B
This means real doctor-parent discussions must happen bring informed consent back. Parents should hear about risks, benefits, ingredients, adverse events etc, although doctors will have to update their own education on this as most are unaware. This piece should have a solution installed somehow.
Another critical change is a call for placebo-controlled randomized trials and long-term observational studies for current and future vaccines with transparent, published data.
This should have existed decades ago but hasn't been done.
To be clear, no vaccine is banned. No one loses access to any vaccine they want to take etc. More freedom exists and these decisions align with many other developed countries around the world.
