Christie Bates here. I wanted to share some encouragement re Brainspotting. On Dec 26, longtime friend and now fellow Brainspotting practitioner Karen Moran supported me in BSP with intention to increase red blood cell counts. Look at these results!! The dip after is bc those cells got busy fighting an unexplained infection that afternoon! We learned I had a blood clot in my right lung which is now being treated. But I keep working with those red blood cell counts!!

Life often presents us with unpredictable challenges that leave troubling images/thoughts etched in our minds—whether from natural disasters, distressing news, personal relationships, family crises, or witnessing traumatic events. These mental snapshots can become persistent and intrusive, making it difficult for individuals to move forward.

To help therapists support their clients in breaking free from these repetitive thoughts and mental images, we are pleased to introduce a transformative training called Harmonic Brain Healing (HBH). This training offers a powerful tool to help clients release the emotional charge from troubling images and thoughts, creating space for healing and growth.

This humanitarian training is specifically designed for therapists working with clients affected by natural disasters or wars. In recognition of the critical importance of this work, we are offering a discounted registration fee of $85 (regularly $197) for therapists in this field. The training is also open to all trauma therapists who work from an attuned, mindfulness-based approach—not just Brainspotting practitioners.

We hope you’ll join us in expanding your therapeutic skills to better serve those in need. Together, we can make a profound impact.

Register now and take the next step in your journey as a trauma therapist.

Hurricane Helene: What You Need to Know About Practicing Across State Lines

Most pertinent to your question:

I am licensed in another state, am I able to assist with relief efforts by providing clinical social work services in North Carolina?

Please be aware that we are asking social workers NOT to self-deploy at this time. We are gathering information for volunteer opportunities.

Yes, on October 5, 2024 Governor Cooper issued an executive order that increases the capacity of the healthcare workforce to respond to Helene by making it easier for healthcare professionals licensed in other states, recent retirees, and others with necessary skills to assist with North Carolina’s response and recovery. Until rescinded by the Governor, this Executive Order allows for social workers licensed in other states, territories or the District of Columbia, but not licensed in North Carolina to provide care in North Carolina.

We do anticipate the need for mental health professionals will be great over the coming weeks, months, and years. We will continue to update our Helene resources page as more volunteer opportunities become available.

I am deeply saddened as many are by the devastating conditions in Asheville and surrounding areas. Many of us have loved ones there. Please pray, donate and help as you wish. Here is some detailed information.
The page entitled North Carolina’s Weather Authority has been amazing with accurate news and information and an organized effort by county and groups of counties where people can post information about finding their friends and family. A lot is being done, and North Carolina is on top it it, getting many rescue teams deployed from military, FEMA, fire and rescue from out of state, etc

Cultural Sensitivity in Brainspotting: Best Practices with Clients of Color
PRESENTED BY: Grace Duarte de Baker, LCSW, CCTS-I

DESCRIPTION: This session is designed to help therapists and mental health professionals enhance their practices by integrating cultural sensitivity and awareness into the ways they practice Brainspotting. Attendees will learn practical strategies for adapting Brainspotting techniques to be more inclusive and effective for a variety of clients. This training will empower you to build stronger connections with clients of color and support their journey towards healing and emotional well-being.

PRESENTER BIO: Graciela "Grace" Duarte de Baker is an Alumnus of the SEBI Diversity Fellowship who brings over 17 years of diverse clinical and supervisory experience to the SEBI webinar. As a bilingual and bicultural licensed clinical social worker in California, Tennessee, and Mississippi, Grace is fluent in both Spanish and English and deeply understands the unique challenges faced by clients of color. Her training in Brainspotting, coupled with a strong foundation in bilingual trauma-informed care, enables her to provide culturally sensitive and effective therapeutic interventions. Grace describes her practice as "clinically hybridized," grounded in Western evidence-based practices and enriched by the principles of Mexican and Chicano Psychology, as well as Jungian and Transpersonal Psychology. This allows her to connect authentically with clients from diverse backgrounds. With a proven track record of success in clinical environments ranging from private practice to the academic, Grace is dedicated to fostering inclusive and empathetic therapeutic spaces.
