Chronic Care Co. Yoga Scientist, Muse Mentor, and Care Giver Hi! I'm Malerie and I own Yoga with Chronic Illness. (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). This all influences the way I teach.

If you'd like to receive FREE practices, tips, and stay in touch via email please fill in this form. https://forms.gle/jCvDrFJddictagCE7

Get to Know Me:
I have been teaching yoga for over 8 years full time and am chronically ill. I got sick a few years ago and was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and M.E. Most days it's painful to walk around the block (if I even have the energy to). I have joint pain 24/7 and juggle a variety of other symptoms. I only teach practices that don't make my pain worse and that I would take if someone else was leading them. I have a bachelor's in Exercise and Health Science which influences my approach to teaching. There's a reason behind everything I do and always look to the research for techniques proven to reduce stress, pain, etc. That said I also honor and respect the lineage of yoga by weaving in philosophy and mythology. It's important to remember the yogi's have known so much that science is just starting to catch up to. Where to Practice with Me:
Currently all of my offerings are virtual. I post yoga classes on an app called Sunroom. It's free to download and monthly membership is 9.99

Each month I create a collection of classes to fit the time of year. 15 posts launch on the first of each month. About My Classes:
The practices range from 5-30 minutes. No classes are done standing or taught in a typical yoga format. All classes are done seated and/or lying down. *A class or two in each collection might have some kneeling and very very rarely I will add a super gentle 5 minute standing practice. The focus of my classes is calming your nervous system, moving without making any chronic pain worse, relieving anxiety, as well as gentle strengthening and stretching. My classes are thoughtfully designed for chronically ill and disabled students as well as beginners, seniors and lovers of mindfulness and meditation. Class Descriptions:
I find it very important to clearly state the details of a class because you should know upfront if it's accessible to you or not. I always create classes with accessibility as a core foundation but even people with the same condition might need something different so I tell you what's included to empower you and help you feel confident in the class so you can start practicing with ease. Each class description ends with an accessibility note that tells you the following...
- Movement Categories (seated, lying down, etc)
- Duration (for the over all class as well for a particular section of class like kneeling)
- Movement Pace (to the breath, held for 5 breaths, etc)
- Body Focus (hips, shoulders, back, etc.)
- And Props Required (blanket, wall space, pillows, etc.) I also always encourage my students to tell me if they need accessibility in another way I am not currently providing or that they want to see more of. I always try my very best to make it happen.

*If you are interested in privates or personalized content please email me at yogawithchronicillness@gmail.com telling me a little about you, your budget and what your ideal practice/format is. You can also email me at this address if you have questions or concerns.

Ever find yourself searching through books or tabs before class, trying to remember the right mudra for the vibe you're creating?

Yeah—same.

That’s why I created Finger Spells—a mini-course that teaches 15 mudras (3 per element) in just 15 minutes.
No more guessing. No more charts. Just mudras that actually stick.

So the next time you need grounding, flow, or fire—you’ll know exactly what to teach.

Want to remember this mudra later?
Tap the three dots and save this post to revisit before class.

There’s something about being sick that leads me to feel “lazy”but the problem is my sickness is so normal that the only thing my brain usually registers is “lazy.”

When you don’t feel good you do less. You’re evolved to rest and recover but what happens when you’re not recovering?

Eventually you have to decide to live again but it’s living in a new world. One where laziness can’t exist. Not the reality of “not doing anything” or “not doing what you need to” but the word. The interpretation of laziness needs to disappear and I’m working on that still.

However I think we’re all recovering from a lot more than we give ourselves credit for: that “little” cold, having a baby, a heart sick with grief and endless more.

So the next time you throw the judgement of lazy out to others or upon yourself consider what they’re/you’re recovering from temporarily or permanently.

Today I had morning cuddles with my three sweet boys (two of whom are furry), watched She Would Never Know while I got my first iron infusion (yes my babes who can’t tolerate oral iron - they exist and you might be able to get one! My primary care physician was able to order it although not sure if my cardiologist at Emory’s referral was required for it’s approval but where they referred me to wouldn’t accept my insurance) and the oncology unit at Kaiser Gwinnett was so welcoming (kind greetings, warmed up blankets, pillows, snacks, recliners and more) and safe, then T and I ran to an actual mall to buy something, came home ate pre-made noods followed by ice cream and a nap snuggled with my furriest friend.

*Note about oral iron I have a recommendation that doesn’t make me sick to my stomach and proved in my labs to increase my iron stores a bit but since my iron stores have been consistently nonexistent (though I’m not anemic!) it just made more sense to do a large dose infusion to bolster my iron well. Checkout Standard Process Ferrofood (expensive for iron and really not vegan but when it’s all you can tolerate you have to take care of yourself ❤️) and try these research proven tips for better absorption: take your supplement in the morning, with vitamin c and every other day!

Tyler and I were thrilled to accompany one of the latest US citizens, , to cast her first vote in America! Go vote with your cute friends.❤️

Disabled babes - if the thought of long lines is scaring you away from the polls don’t let it! Here are my best tips for voting while disabled…

1. Vote early!! I’ve noticed that voting centers are closer if I early vote and you’re less likely to encounter massive lines.
2. If there is a line you can’t stand in for whatever reason simply walk up to the front of the line, tell them that you’re unable to stand in a line (or endure temperatures outside) for that long and that you need accommodations for accessible voting. In my experience they typically will give me a chair inside and I wait for a few people who were in line first to go and then they let me go. Also if Tyler is with me he will get to cut the line with me so you can bring someone with you if you’re feeling self conscious to go alone.
3. There’s always an ADA voting booth with a chair so you can sit while you vote.
4. If you use a mobility device as needed bring it to vote regardless of whether or not your symptoms that day require you to. Having my cane makes me more confident when I ask for accommodations as a young “healthy looking” person.
5. You don’t need to disclose any information about your health condition in order to be granted access to accommodations. You should not be asked about your condition but here are two options to consider responding with just in case “Under the ADA, I’m not required to disclose specific medical information. I’m requesting this accommodation to ensure I can participate fully in the voting process” or “Federal law guarantees my right to request accommodations based on my needs, rather than a diagnosis.”

I hope these tips help and that regardless of whether or not you’re disabled that you vote and do so with the rights of disabled people in mind. ❤️

Any other advice you disabled babes out there would give to someone hesitant to vote for this reason? Drop it in a comment or tell me your experience asking for accommodations so others can see how simple and helpful it can be!

Anniversary is a word that deserves more contemplation. I wish I consciously remembered the depth and weight of what it means every time I say it.

It’s easy to forget what it represents —365 days multiplied over the years. It’s choosing the same thing/person/action over and over everyday.

Ten years with you is a dream —it’s every thing.

3650 Days with you has marked days of every emotion. Days of joy, love, playfulness and true contentment mixed with days of pain, heartache, anxiety, fear, and disappointment.

Those are all the cost of admission to life and relationships. They’re unavoidable.

We have miscommunications, jealousy, annoyances, and let downs — and each and every time we do it’s okay because you and me have made ourselves family.
Neither of us moves out if we’re angry. In varying degrees of time we always lean into each other. We tell each other the things it’s hard to say outright, the things we’re embarrassed of, the things we think other people would judge us for and it’s gotten us to where we are. We’ve said things that have broken each other’s hearts.

It’s unfortunate but it’s been purposeful. We’ve communicated our needs and set boundaries which has formed the safety line that has allowed us to stay together for this long.

The person you love will inevitably say something that shatters your world if you stay in it long enough. Sometimes it’s a simple misunderstanding, maybe it’s choosing the wrong word, saying something at the wrong time, overlooking something or a difference in perspective.

Anniversaries are celebrations and yet this may not be coming across that way—but hear me out.

I can’t help but reflect on what we’ve overcome and how we’ve made it this far. Yes we’re celebrating love but loving you feels easy and I bet you feel the same. What I want you to remember year after year when this day rolls around is that even when life is scary or sad you’re not alone. Even if you’re mad at me you’ll always know where to find me —I’ll be by your side.

Thank you for holding my emotions safely, being eager to understand me better, letting me receive your thoughts and for spending the day recreating our very first dates. ❤️
