October Recipe of the Month in Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli contain glucosinolates, which break down into compounds like sulforaphane. These compounds are powerful antioxidants that support the body's natural detoxification processes. Combining this with legumes, which are packed with fiber, helps support gut health, maintain stable blood sugar, and promote overall cellular wellness—all key pillars of a preventative lifestyle.

This recipe is high in fiber and rich in compounds known to support detoxification, making it a great addition to a healthy diet.

We are incredibly proud to spotlight one of the most dynamic leaders on our team: Ryanne Rothenberg, the visionary Private Chef, Ayurvedic Wellness Coach, and owner of Ry's Table!

Ryanne is much more than just a brilliant chef; she is a powerful voice guiding the future of Pea Pod Nutrition. She sits on our Board of Directors and is the driving force as the head of our Fundraising and Events Committee, ensuring our mission to support families is fully funded and fiercely protected.

Ryanne's unique background perfectly embodies the intersection of medicine and food. She brings 15 years of public health experience—specializing in maternal and neonatal health, outreach education, and building essential food security programs—to our board room.

After settling in Atlanta, Ryanne began cooking as a postpartum Ayurveda doula, blending her deep public health knowledge with the ancient principles that food is medicine. This transition launched Ry's Table, a local pop-up renowned for preparing delicious meals featuring global flavors using locally grown, seasonal ingredients.

Ry's Table is a true passion project, offering events, cooking classes, and wellness consultations. Since 2020, Ryanne has been building a Farmstead at her home, where many of her ingredients are grown, and she is now expanding to build an outdoor kitchen for workshops and private events.

Her mission is clear: Nourishing, locally grown food should be accessible to all. Guided by seasonal availability, Ryanne connects customers with local growers, empowering them to make informed food choices and advocate for a stronger, more equitable local food system.

This dedication to food equity is why she is a multi-year Farmer Champion with Georgia Organics and a staunch supporter of local food justice organizations like Wholesome Wave and Food Well Alliance.

Please join us in celebrating Ryanne Rothenberg, whose extensive expertise is essential to achieving Pea Pod Nutrition's goals!

🧠 Your Brain on Food: Happy Gut, Happy Mind! 😊

Today is World Mental Health Day, and we're talking about a powerful link that often gets overlooked: the connection between nutrition and mental well-being!

What you eat doesn't just fuel your body—it directly fuels your brain and your mood! The gut and the brain are constantly communicating through the "gut-brain axis."

How Food Supports Your Mental Health:

* Boost Your Brain Fuel: Complex carbohydrates (like whole grains and veggies) provide a slow, steady supply of glucose to your brain, which helps maintain stable energy and focus.
* Feed the Happy Chemicals: Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids (fatty fish, walnuts) and probiotics (yogurt, kefir) support a healthy gut. A healthy gut helps regulate the production of neurotransmitters (like serotonin, your "happy chemical")!
* Fight Inflammation: Diets high in processed foods and sugar can trigger inflammation, which is linked to increased risk of depression and anxiety. Focusing on colorful fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats is your best defense!

Today, treat your mind by nourishing your body! Grab a handful of nuts, choose a whole grain, or enjoy a fermented food.

Your Cart, Your Power! 🛒💪

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we're showing you 3 simple grocery swaps that can help lower your risk of breast cancer!

Nutrition plays a huge role in supporting hormone balance and cellular health. The best part? Making powerful changes doesn't have to be complicated!

3 Simple Swaps for a Healthier Cart:

1. More Fruits & Veggies: Go deep into the produce aisle! Fiber-rich produce (especially cruciferous veggies like broccoli and dark leafy greens) supports your gut and helps your body detoxify excess hormones. Don't skip the berries!
2. Whole Grains over Refined Grains: Swap white bread, white rice, and simple breakfast cereals for their whole grain counterparts (whole wheat, oats, brown rice). This swap keeps blood sugar levels steady and boosts your fiber intake, which is protective against breast cancer.
3. Less Added Sugar: Cutting back on sugary drinks and heavily processed foods reduces chronic inflammation, which is a major driver of chronic disease, including cancer. Look for sparkling waters, herbal tea, or fresh fruit for a sweet fix!

🎀 Take Action This Month!

Every bite counts! Start by adding one extra piece of fruit to your day or swapping one refined grain for a whole grain. These small, consistent changes make a difference in your long-term health.

What's one healthy swap you're adding to your cart this week? Tell us below! 👇
