At Hillside, we use The Sanctuary Model to guide how we support both clients and staff. It’s a trauma-informed framework that helps us create a culture of safety, emotional awareness, open communication, and shared responsibility. That means we pay attention not just to how we treat individuals, but to how we treat each other as a community.
The goal is to build an environment where young people feel safe enough to heal, and where staff are supported in doing meaningful, difficult work.

When weekly therapy isn’t enough, and 24/7 care isn’t needed, Hillside’s DBT Day Program bridges the gap. Designed for adolescents who need more structure and support, our Day Program offers full-day, trauma-informed treatment rooted in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Clients attend daily programming on our Atlanta campus, where they receive individual therapy, DBT skills groups, and family involvement, all while returning home each evening. Learn more at hside.org

The TIP skill in DBT is a powerful tool for managing intense emotions in the moment. It helps bring the body back to a calmer state, fast. TIP stands for:
💙T – Temperature: Change your body temperature to trigger a calming response.
💙I – Intense Exercise: Do 10–15 minutes of vigorous movement like jumping jacks, running in place, or fast walking to burn off excess energy and regulate your nervous system.
💙P – Paced Breathing & Paired Muscle Relaxation: Slow your breathing and gently tense and relax different muscle groups to settle your body and mind.
At Hillside, we teach TIP skills as part of emotion regulation. Learn more at Hside.org

Hillside’s new greenhouse is more than just a place to grow plants. As part of our Horticulture Therapy program, the greenhouse offers a hands-on, healing space where kids and teens connect with nature, build confidence, and learn to care for something outside themselves. Whether planting seeds, propagating succulents, or harvesting herbs, clients practice mindfulness, patience, and emotional regulation. Learn more at Hside.org

Vulnerability isn't weakness, it's a path to deeper connection and self-awareness. Practicing vulnerability means allowing yourself to be seen, even when it feels uncomfortable. It’s being honest about your emotions, asking for support, and showing up without a mask. At Hillside, we help young people explore vulnerability in a supportive, nonjudgmental space, learning that being open is brave, and that emotions are not something to hide, but to understand. The Hillside Team Are Experts At Providing Residential & Outpatient Behavioral Health Support for Youth, Adolescents, and Their Families.
Welcome to Hillside, where every day is a new day and a new beginning. Since our beginning in 1888, Hillside’s mission has been to help children and families thrive by providing outstanding residential services and community mental health services. Our programs focus on the strengths of our kids and encourage the growth and improvement they need to navigate through life. Hillside provides specialized cutting edge mental health care and education to children and their families.
Hillside is unique among mental health facilities for youth in Georgia that focuses on children, adolescents and young adults ranging in age from six to 24. Our services, both residential services and day programs, resolve family issues by helping children with mental illness move more successfully through adolescence into adulthood. With a staff fully trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), we have success with children who have not responded to other treatment modalities.
We offer community-based services, residential programs and foster care services to reach children and teens where they are, at home, school and in the community. The help we offer includes individualized treatment programs that also incorporate the family to build a complete wrap-around support structure and improved family dynamics.
Hillside Is One Of The Premier Mental Health Facilities in GA
Our behavioral health centers in Atlanta, GA serve children and families from across the Southeast who are dealing with mental health issues that typically present or are exacerbated during adolescence. Managing mental health issues in children can be challenging for families, and the strain on other members of the family is sometimes almost too great to bear. At Hillside, we treat children struggling with mental illness and help heal the damage mental illness often causes for families. With community-based services, Hillside provides continuing care to support healing families.
Hillside prohibits discrimination in all its programs and activities on the basis of race, color, national origin, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, political beliefs and marital or family status.
