The Carter Center provided an update on its 4-decades long fight against the Guinea Worm. Impressively, only 4 cases have been reported in the past year which is down from 3.6 million cases in 1986 when the project began.
Guinea worm has been eradicated in 15 countries to date.
If successful, Guinea Worm would be only the second disease eradicated by humankind. Disease eradication was previously thought to be impossible.
The effort to eradicate this horrible disease led by the Carter Center is a source of pride for all Americans and particularly for Atlantans. It is also an enduring legacy of President Carter’s goal to make the world a better place.
Our practice has been proud to support this Public Health effort.
