Why FUE Hair Transplants Are the Gold Standard.
Dr. Stong explains why Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) has become the preferred technique for modern hair restoration. Instead of removing a strip of scalp like traditional FUT, FUE uses a tiny punch biopsy to individually extract follicular units from the donor area. This means no linear scar, no sutures or staples, and minimal recovery time.
One of the biggest advantages is downtime. FUT procedures can require more than a month of recovery due to the strip incision, while FUE patients are typically back to normal activity in about two weeks.
FUE also offers excellent graft survival. At Kalos, follicles are carefully preserved in HypoThermosol and ATP, which support cellular energy and help maintain graft viability before implantation. This allows survival rates of 95–98%, compared to around 75% with FUT.
The result is a technique that prioritizes natural results, minimal scarring, faster recovery, and high graft survival—which is why FUE is widely considered the gold standard in hair transplantation.
