You are not going to attract someone from across the room with your inner self. Finding love or making new friends takes effort. Looking attractive is literal. It attracts. Playing down your appeal signals not interested in attracting. Smiling at people within a 5-foot radius signals that you would welcome their approach, and a smile must be in your social toolbox. If you are uncomfortable about smiling, practice on furniture, then on animals and small children, before you go into live action with adults. Being stationary while holding up a wall, being seated and thereby less visible, or putting yourself in a corner, is self-imposed isolation. Move about, mingle. No one can love you, like you, or think they want to know you better if they can’t find you.

But being in a relationship where you perceive yourself to be inferior, or they do - acquisitional or achievement-oriented, choices typically prove to be unhealthy because the lesser or more submissive partner is sealing themselves into a commitment to stay that way.

We need a balance of personalities to achieve a harmonious mixture of quiet time and interactivity. But be aware of the too quiet, not because they cause the most trouble – that is the purview of charismatic sociopaths. The danger is that they are so easily used as fantasy catchers. If someone won’t tell you who they are, you can fall into the trap of believing they are what you want them to be, and that is likely to end in disappointment or a full stop dead-end.
