Get Better Sleep With These Foods
We all know the importance of getting a good night’s rest, but on some nights, you can’t help but toss and turn. An increasing number of studies show that what you eat during the day can affect your sleep at night.
Diets rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains, and fiber improve both the quantity and quality of sleep. Conversely, diets high in ultra-processed foods, sugar, fat, and salt, while low in nutrients and fiber, lead to poorer sleep quality.
If you want to start sleeping better, it's time to start paying attention to what you eat. Apart from eating a more Mediterranean style diet, it's also helpful to eat more foods rich in tryptophan, an amino acid that helps produce melatonin and serotonin, hormones that regulate sleep.
Here are just some of the many foods that are good sources of tryptophan:
Tofu
Edamame
Tuna
Tilapia
Salmon
Turkey
Pork
Quinoa
Oats
Milk
Chia seeds
Pumpkin and sunflower seeds
Black walnuts
