Just Us Kids strives to maintain the personal touch and customer service that every child and family so deserves. It is our desire to make your child's visit to the pediatricians office as fun and comfortable as possible.The majority of our team members are moms so we value practicing medicine in a nurturing way. It’s Swimming Season – Stay Informed and Safe! 🌞

As we enjoy the water this summer, it’s important to be aware of a rare but serious condition that can occur after a near-drowning incident: Dry Drowning – also known as secondary drowning or post-immersion syndrome.

Even when someone appears fine after being pulled from the water, complications can still arise. Here’s what you should know:

🔹 Not a formal medical term – Doctors typically refer to it as “post-immersion syndrome” or “secondary drowning.”

🔹 Water doesn’t need to reach the lungs – A small amount in the airway can trigger spasms or cause fluid buildup in the lungs (pulmonary edema), leading to difficulty breathing.

🔹 Symptoms can be delayed – Warning signs may not appear until hours (or even up to 24 hours) after the incident.

🔹 It’s a medical emergency – If someone shows signs of labored breathing, chest pain, fatigue, or coughing after a water incident, seek medical attention immediately.
