I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and Certified S*x Therapist with the American Association of S*xuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists. In addition to my time as a therapist, I have worked since 2005 with the public defender office on cases involving clients who are facing the death penalty. My work with this specialized group of clients involves relationship building, family functional analysis and development of intensive bio-psycho-social history narratives on clients and their families. As a result of my work in these unique settings, I believe that none of us are the worst thing we have ever done, and the times when we are at our worst often are the times when we need love the most. This work has taught me a tremendous amount about human suffering and the amazing ability of the human spirit to heal, and to thrive in the midst of a vast array of circumstances. I hope and trust that with Creative Approaches to Healing, we can engage the therapeutic process together to find an approach that heals the things that have been harmed and builds on the things that have thrived in your life. I completed my undergraduate studies at Greensboro College in 2000, my Master of Divinity degree at Emory University in 2004, was ordained in the United Methodist Church, Western North Carolina Annual Conference in 2009, and received my Marriage and Family Therapy License in 2010. I had the opportunity to study at the Link Counseling Center’s Marriage and Family Therapy Training Institute and served clients at the Genesis Shelter as part of my training before becoming a full Clinical Fellow with the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. I have served on a number of boards nationally and locally, including the Board of Directors for the Reconciling Ministry Network, which seeks full inclusion for Le***an, Gay, Bis*xual and Transgender (LGBT) people in the United Methodist Church; the Emory University Hope Clinic for HIV/AIDS Research Community Advisory Board; and the Atlanta Police Department’s LGBT Advisory Board; For the Kid in Us All, Inc.; and WonderRoot. I am also a proud alumnus of the LEAD Atlanta class of 2011 and the New Leaders Council class of 2013.
