First stop: Valley of Fire State Park. If you find yourself in Vegas, do yourself a favor and head 45 minutes north to this park. Stunning views and not as packed as some of the national parks.

It's cold out there so I'm coming in hot with some vaccine research updates, tips on how to stave off the winter blues and dates where we'll be out of the office. Happy Hump Day!

The days may be getting shorter but for many people, they are feeling MUCH longer.  This can be attributed to our feelings of being stuck in a routine that seemingly never ends.  It surely could be coming from the Sun making its exit from the sky earlier and earlier.  If the winter blues are maki...

A poll conducted by found that more than 90 percent of respondents said their patients or people they knew were experiencing more musculoskeletal issues since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Feel better; get handsdownbetter.org/NCHM

For National Chiropractic Health Month 2019 the American Chiropractic Association and its members focused on how musculoskeletal health leads to strength, stability and ultimately the success of a life lived more fully and actively. The campaign provided information on small steps to take toward mus...

"Many of us haven’t just changed where we work; we’ve also changed how we work. We no longer walk down the hall for a meeting, dart across the street for a coffee, or even walk to the subway for a commute. Instead we just sit."

One easy way to help minimize strain on your eyes, neck and low back is to get up and move every 20 minutes. It doesn't mean you have to go for a 10 minute walk. Just do the opposite of the shape you were just in! For example, sitting working on a laptop = standing, arms by your side or back behind you, chest open and looking up toward the ceiling with eyes focusing on something that's further than a few feet in front of you.

There is emerging evidence that COVID-19 is a vascular disease. In a paper published in April in the scientific journal The Lancet, a team of scientists discovered that COVID-19 can infect the endothelial cells that line the inside of blood vessels. Endothelial cells protect the cardiovascular system, and they release proteins that influence everything from blood clotting to the immune response. In the paper, the scientists showed damage to endothelial cells in the lungs, heart, kidneys, liver, and gut in people with COVID-19. Sure it starts in the receptors of the respiratory system, but once there, it can get into the blood stream and affect any tissue in the body...HELLO COVID TOE!!

Doctors have continually been baffled by thousands of tiny strokes or blood clots in patients old and young which is not a hallmark of influenza virus or other coronaviruses.

Blood vessel damage could also explain why people with pre-existing conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and heart disease are at a higher risk for severe complications from a virus that’s supposed to just infect the lungs. This means that virtually anyone presenting to a doctors office or hospital feeling ill could have coronavirus and that further and faster testing (beyond a simple nasal swab) could be necessary to form a complete action plan.

Cardiovascular complications are rapidly emerging as a key threat in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in addition to respiratory disease. The mechanisms underlying the disproportionate effect of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection on patients with cardiovascular...

07/01/2020

A newly published study found no beneficial effect on either cardiovascular disease (CVD) or death of lowering saturated fatty acid (SFA) intake AND that saturated fat intake is actually protective against stroke. This reassessment of dietary saturated fat intake was based on a meta-analysis of randomized control trials (the strongest data available), as well as observational studies.

Bottom Line: "Whole-fat dairy, unprocessed meat, eggs and dark chocolate are SFA-rich foods with a complex matrix that are not associated with increased risk of CVD. The totality of available evidence does not support further limiting the intake of such foods.”

https://www.onlinejacc.org/content/early/2020/06/16/j.jacc.2020.05.077

The recommendation to limit dietary saturated fatty acid (SFA) intake has persisted despite mounting evidence to the contrary. Most recent meta-analyses of randomized trials and observational studies found no beneficial effects of reducing SFA intake on cardiovascular disease (CVD) and total mortali...
