🌟 April Platelet Donor Spotlight: Nancy — 150 Platelet Donations! 🌟
Nancy made her first platelet donation with Atlanta Blood Services on June 4, 2009. On April 7, 2026, she reached an incredible milestone: her 150th platelet donation.
Over the years, Nancy has donated in support of several different patients, quietly and consistently showing up when local families needed hope, strength, and transfusion support.
As a now-retired educator, Nancy spent her career making a difference through learning. Today, she continues to be a gift to local BMTGA patients by helping educate others about the lifesaving need for platelet donors.
In honor of Nancy’s 150th donation, here are a few platelet facts worth sharing:
🩸 Platelets help blood clot and prevent serious bleeding.
For many cancer, leukemia, and bone marrow transplant patients, platelet transfusions are a critical part of treatment and recovery.
⏳ Platelets have a very short shelf life — only 5 days.
That means the need for platelet donors is constant. We cannot collect them once and save them for later.
💛 Platelet donors can donate more often than whole blood donors.
Many eligible platelet donors can give every 8 days, up to 24 times per year.
🏥 ABS platelet donations support local patients.
