For our MLK Jr. Community Impact Camp this year, we went *big*. First, we discussed how we can shine love and light to others who have less through acts of compassion. We talked about what MLK Jr.'s dream meant (and the kids explained it beautifully). We practiced aloud how we can make sure we do not stand in silence (because our silence looks like we approve of the wrongdoing) so when we see things that are harmful words or actions, we learned to say "this is not okay!". Finally, we all participated in a community impact project to prepare 8 taco casseroles to deliver to the Frontier Warming Center. A neighbor also prepared 2 massive baked ziti dishes and 5 trays of chicken fried rice for local food-insecure families. After the camp, I delivered all food (hot off the oven) and each meal had additional sides/toppings as well. Our MLK Jr. Camp fed over 75 humans.
Deep gratitude to my registrants so that we were able to use the funds to donate towards this cause.♥️♥️♥️
Thank you to my neighbor Corrine who prepared the additional meals for local families, to my husband Jeff for grocery shopping on a CRAZY holiday weekend, to my kids for putting up with my intense self when I run programs like this,to my junior counselors for battling the cold to help keep these kids occupied and supported for such a busy and important camp, to Dames Doing Good to help collaborate for this project and get me to the people and places so we can truly help those in dire need, and to .boggs for being my ride or die in these KTK programs.
Considering the events of today, hopefully I was able to reach kids so they can follow the path of helping and connecting and never hurting or discriminating against others.
My body is so tired, but my heart is incredibly full. 🙏💙
