✨ Meet Cree! ✨

Born with a rare condition called amnionic band syndrome, Cree is missing her right leg, left toe and has webbed fingers on her left hand—but she doesn’t let that stop her from living life to the fullest.

She has worked with her Prosthetist, Richard Welling, along with our Orthotics and Prosthetics team, to design her prostheses she wears below her right knee, allowing her to do what she loves: gymnastics, flag football, swimming and being outdoors.

At just 12 years old, Cree is already inspiring other kids to dream big. She wrote a book called "Just Like You", which is all about her adventures as an amputee and a reminder that you can do anything you set your mind to!

Asher’s care team turned hard days into moments of light when he was in treatment at our Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center.

Asher and his family came to us for surgery to remove his metastatic medulloblastoma tumor, a type of brain cancer, and begin intensive and aggressive chemotherapy. Just two weeks after his neurosurgery, Asher was part of the historic move to Arthur M. Blank Hospital.

On his darkest days of treatment, Asher would light up with delight when he saw his nurse, “Miss Sydney.” During late-night interventions, his care team went above and beyond to ease his pain and fear, with his nurse bringing the dinosaur-loving boy a T-Rex to play with.

A picture says a thousand words.

As we celebrated 30 years of hope and healing at our Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, Dan Amos, CEO of Aflac, reunited with Elaina, a former patient, to recreate a heartwarming moment of 5-year-old Elaina holding up Dan's tie from the Center's opening in 1995, reminding us how far we’ve come—and the lives we’re changing together. 🩵

Oliver is shining bright as Student of the Month! ☀️💛 Despite having Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD), a rare genetic disorder, his positivity and determination light up every room.

Thanks to the care he received at Children’s—one of only a few hospitals in the Southeast with the pediatric expertise and tools to diagnose and treat children with PCD—and the support from pediatric pulmonologists Dr. Burton Lesnick and Dr. Allan Dias, Oliver is able to play sports, enjoy school and live every day to the fullest.

History was made at Children’s when two of our surgeons performed the world’s youngest domino liver transplant—a procedure where one child’s liver helps save another child's life.

Two-year-old Greyson was born with a rare metabolic disorder that prevented his liver from processing certain proteins. To correct this disorder, he received a new liver and his original liver was then transplanted into another patient at Children’s who suffered from a rare, potentially fatal, liver disease.

Thanks to the expert care of Dr. Bhargava Mullapudi, our Division Chief of Pediatric Abdominal Transplant, and Dr. Richard Hendrickson, a pediatric surgeon at Children's, both patients are now thriving.

Persistent thirst, frequent urination and weight loss can sometimes be telltale signs of Type 1 diabetes.

Our latest podcast episode cuts through the confusion around Type 1 diabetes: what it is, what it isn't, how it's diagnosed, and the signs every parent, teacher and caregiver should know. You might be parenting a child with Type 1 diabetes—like Megan, a mom who had no family history of diabetes when her teenage daughter was diagnosed earlier this year. Or maybe your child shares a classroom, dugout or birthday party circuit with someone who has Type 1 diabetes. Whether you're deep in the Type 1 diabetes world already, or just want to be a more informed adult in a child’s life, this episode will give you the knowledge—and the confidence—to do just that.

Earlier this year, the Children’s Heart Center became the first center in the Southeast to successfully implant a new extravascular defibrillator (EV-ICD) in a pediatric patient.

For 8-year-old Kyndall, this technology came at just the right time. Because of her underlying diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, Kyndall was at risk for dangerously fast heart rhythms that can lead to sudden cardiac arrest. Unlike traditional defibrillators, which require more complex placement, the EV-ICD is less invasive and can reduce long-term complications for young patients. In the procedure, electrophysiologist Dr. Robert Whitehill and his team successfully implanted the device—helping Kyndall get back to being a kid.
