📝Act Now and Protect Women’s Health!
Black women in the United States are over three times more likely to die in pregnancy or postpartum than women of any other racial group. With more than 80% of pregnancy-related deaths in the United States being preventable, American leaders and policymakers should be focused on addressing maternal mortality. Instead, Congress has passed a sweeping budget reconciliation bill that will slash Medicaid and allow enhanced premium tax credits to expire at the end of the year—jeopardizing access to care for millions of Americans.
🌏Like many nonprofits, the Center for Black Women’s Wellness is impacted by the current climate. We remain steadfast and committed to providing quality, affordable healthcare to thousands of uninsured and underinsured women; and providing education, home visiting, and wraparound services to over 700 pregnant women and their families through our Atlanta Healthy Start Initiative. Here's how you can help
📣Make your voice heard. Tell your representatives to stand up to protect health care access and investments in maternal health programs. Initiatives like Healthy Start have long addressed maternal and infant health in communities across the country with the highest maternal health risk. Let your elected officials know that Healthy Start is vital to saving lives and supporting families in their communities. Look up contact information for your U.S. Senators and House Representatives.
