Shelley A. Senterfitt JD MS LPC NCC

Shelley A. Senterfitt JD MS LPC NCC Family lawyer turned therapist in private practice in midtown Atlanta and Aspen, Colorado. Prior to becoming a therapist, I practiced family law for 16 years.

I enjoy working with adults who are motivated to improve their well-being. I have experience with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, workplace conflict, grief, trauma, and stress. I believe clients possess the knowledge and ability to change their current circumstances; the challenge is to uncover the path to make desired changes. Drawing from cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and multicultural counseling traditions, I work with clients to explore their concerns, set goals, and develop a plan for moving forward. My warm, empathic presence combined with my solution-focused approach allows me to provide non-judgmental support as clients tackle life's challenges. This background is invaluable to my work with individuals and couples who are experiencing relationship challenges. I also have considerable experience working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence and with the LGBTQ community. In addition to being a counselor, I am a mediator and can work with couples who wish to resolve their divorce and custody issues by agreement rather than through litigation. I also serve as a guardian ad litem, parent coordinator, and co-parenting therapist. I am a graduate of the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program taught by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield. A native Atlantan, I now live in Aspen, Colorado and maintain private practices in both Atlanta and Aspen. Since the beginning of the pandemic, I only see clients via video session.
